Jeez! Just think of how many push ups, butterflys and "must improve my bust" exercises I did to get to this level. Not to mention those years of positive thinking in an A- training bra from ages 11-15. Oh, the horror!

Hmmm....I think Big Sky is a step above Squaw terrain-wise, of course it isn't the place to go to be seen, there's barely anyone there.

More posers and wannabes per acre than anywhere else on the planet.

these debates and arguments are really gay. who really gives a fook who "has the best skiers" or "those guys are all posers there, etc", or "squaw has sicker steeps than the bird".

good people, its all fookin good. if you are lucky enough to live (or have lived/spent time) in any of these places (squaw/alpine/kirkweed, alta/bird, jackson, big sky, etc), or get to ski frequently any of these mountains, then life is good, and you are probably a pretty good skier, and in the end, who really gives a flying fook who is better, who has more rad terrain, etc?

i guess with age comes the need to do less dick waving, so if you are under 30, then carry on I suppose.....

the best skiers in Mammoth were from squaw? Thats not true. 99% of the best skiers in Mammoth are from VT/ east coast

ahh, come on Freshies. wouldn't you rather have some people around here trashtalking about skiing instead of politics? - it's summer

    but you're totally right, though!

I don't know about 99%, but it's high, and it's not limited to Mammoth. Where do you think all (well not all, but perhaps a majority) of the rippers in Utah, Jackson and Montana came from? Tahoe and Jackson are like UVM alumni clubs.

But, back to the topic. All the other previously mentioned mountains are great in there own right, and Squaw is deffinately not the place for everyone. For pure lift served, in bounds skiing though, I don't think you can touch Squaw on a daily basis. It's the wet heavy snow! We don't need 3 feet of fresh to huck and ski big lines. Sometimes 6" is enough. The bumps dissapear after almost every storm and the runouts are smooth. That's the biggest differance I've found. Squaw has the conditions to push yourself to the limit, IN BOUNDS, RIDING LIFTS more often than any other mountain. The more you get to practice the faster you improve. And one overwhelming stat: huckable cliffs per acre. Nowhere comes close.

I've got to say, with Jackson and Mad River Glen being the exceptions, everytime I ski somewhere other than Squaw, I find the open accesible terrain rather tame in comparison.

Other than Squaw, Mad River Glen gets my vote. Being a Vermonter I'm biased, but nowhere will you find more people wearing duct tape, carharts and wool that ski better than you. A very humbling experience.

Have you skied much in Montana? I don't know about those other places, but the best skiers in Montana are mostly from Montana. Big sky is a bit of an exception perhaps, being as it is a destination resort in spades, but it is a magnet for MT kids who want to ski bum.

"The heavy wet snow......" it kinda sounds like you're saying that Squaw skiers are better because the snow makes it EASIER.

No one voted Breckenridge at #1- that place has the steepest terrain around! Yeah Right, When I used to go there, I had had a hard time staying more than an hour...

Squaw is great, I had some great powder days there this year. The only thing I hate about it are the slow ass granite chief and silverado lifts.

The secret to spending more than an hour at breck is getting in the lift line at the base of peak 9, on a weekend.

Silverado is slow, but at least (a) I've never seen a line there, and (b) it's got footrests.
