    here fishy fishy

took Friday off & noodled around Cohasset (MA) Harbor with a friend on a tandem sit on top Hobie kayak....In about 2.5 hours we caught and released about 25 little schoolie stripers....Great fun to be on a kayak with both folks wish fish on a the same time...Those Hobie pedal drive flapper thingamabobs are really quite amazing for fishing....

I was looking at those online when I was first kayak-shopping. Out of my price range, but they seem very nice! I like the idea of getting a bit of a leg workout while I'm out as well as the upper body. Is it strenuous to use the foot-paddles?

Nice job on the fishing...I'd like to install a fishing pole holder in my kayak, it's on my wish list.

the foot pedal things are a workout. My friend is a fisherman first and a kayaker second so it was a logical choice for him. He has spd or whatever their called bicycle pedals and wears cycling shoes. The whole system is really modualr and component based. for comparson another friend has a more traditional sea kayak and his boat is more efficient/fast/less stable but fishing is comparitively impossible. I havn't priced any kayaks but I'd bet the pedal drive thing is between a ocean kayak sit on top and a fibergalss sea kayak...But that just a guess.

not familair with the appreciation thread but you should put a rod holder in it would be a fairly straightforward project. tilt it so the rod tip is out slightly away from the hull for trolling...If you want any thoughts on materials and methods post up what you boat is made of/configuration....

im working on a design for making the paddle a rod with a quick adjustment or 2, would be neat if i could get past the concept stage.

i was just saying that its definatley a plus when chicks talk about fishing, and arent bs'n

the only girl i ever loved, and this is sad, was loved by me cause she could clean fish =/

LOL. with the pedal padled kayak your concept would give meaning to pole pedal paddle...Good luck with that. I think it would be Ok for emergency use. Like when you go kayaking with no intent of fishing and then all of the sudden the birds are bombing all around you and the stripers/blues/bonita/etc. are slashing all over.....but paddlers and fisherman are pretty picky about their poles/paddles....A hybrid generally means compromise - not knocking it and I think the idea is sound...just can't see myself russhing out to buy one...but then again I craft stuff our of broken hockey sticks so I'm prollly not your target customer...
