    Headed to Hawaii!!

Super stoked! Sure its for work, but hey, you don't complain when you get 2 weeks in Hawaii with a meals per diem. Going to be on Kauai for most of that, then taking a few days vacation and going to checkout Maui. I think I'm going to just rent a surfboard for the whole time and try to get in a little every day. If I don't triple my total surfing experience (3 2-hr sessions spread over 3 years), I will be disappointed.

So if anyone is familiar w/ Kauai, I'm staying at the Kiahuna Plantation, and have in the past done my surfing pretty much right on that beach, obviously in the little stuff since I totally suck. Are there any other similar spots that a total kook like me could check out where I wouldn't get killed, either by the ocean or by the friendly locals? Any local complaining about me would have to be the worst surfer ever.

On Maui, one of the best long board waves to learn on is in Lahaina though in HI everything is dependent on the direction of the swell.

Head down to Poipu beach and check out the break about 30 yards from the Marriot beach club. If they are too big for your liking, head down the pedestrian path (SW, away from Poipu beach) about 5 minutes and check out breaks "1" "2" and "3". Those are smaller and that's the location where the surf schools usually take their clients.
