    tires question

i just started riding again and i replaced my old tires with new ones. My question is am i better off with the new ones or the old.

    my new tires are 1.9s
    my old tires were a 2.1 and a 2.0

The 2.1 has more tread than the 2.0 but not as nearly much as the 1.9s
should i go back to the old setup, stick with the new or mix the tires?

2.1, 2.0, and 1.9 tires could actually all be the same size depending on brand. It might help if you said what tires you are using. Captain Obvious says, "tires with more tread (compared to new) should be better."

    The 2.0s are huchinson's
    The 2.1s are Ritchy's
    The 1.9s are maxxis'

The primary use is CX and i have taken only one ride on the 1.9s (which are what are on the bike now)

Every one has such different opinions about what tires they like to run... tread pattern, width, ect. My opinion is that you take those tires for a few more rides and see if it's something you like. If not, go back to your old ones or try something else out.

My preferences is a 2.1 Kenda Karishma. I like having front and rear specific tread patterns and I find their tread to work well over some of the loosey goosey stuff I find on the front range. But in mucky mud, not so good. But we don't have that too often....

i plan to keep, the 1.9s for another week at least, and then see if I want a little more width to work with in the turns.

play with the tire pressure too. 5psi up or down makes a lot of diff.

Those sound a bit wide for cyclocross. Or did you mean XC?

Wow. Anywho, get the widest tires that will fit in your frame if you have a hardtail for more cush, and something in the 2.3" variety if you have a dually.

I've really enjoy riding my 2.6's for xc rides lately.

Tons of lightweight, high-volume tires out there now. Check out the WTB MutanoRaptor Race 2.4" tire... my current XC favorite.
