Wax for summer storage?

If I got normal shop hot wax on my skis, skiied them one day, and then put them in storage, would that be good enough for storage? Would it matter that they were skiied a day? Or do I need to buy some wax and do it myself and not scrape the wax off or something? If so, whats a good wax to buy for this purpose? Thanks

The purpose of the storage wax is to cover the edges as much as possible and protect the bases. Spring skiing is a bit dirty and likely your bases are not all that clean. One day skiing will clear the edges of any wax and the vast majority of any 'storage' wax. Learn to do it yourself and save some $$$

Also, if you are going to ski after a wax, the ski should be scraped clean of wax, but storage wax should be a thick coat left on the base.

The once-skied skis are no doubt fine for the summer. That said, putting on a coat of storage wax would be a good idea. It'll protect the base and edges, keep the base from drying out at all, and maybe soak in a ways. You just iron it on and leave it, don't scrape until next season. Some people do a few rounds of hot scraping after spring skiing, but I usually just wax and leave it. In the fall, I'll scrape that and then ride the first day. After that day, I'll sometimes do a hot scrape and then put real wax on.

Any wax will do for storage wax. I just use cheap soft wax that's laying around. If you are going out to buy some, Dominator Renew Zoom (w/ or w/out graphite depending on whether your base is clear or black) is great. Speaking of Dominator, I have to say that I've become a big fan this season. I was using Holmenkol before and really like the Zoom line (regular zoom and hyper zoom, depending on how much a few tenths matter).

Just buy parrafin wax from the hardwear store. Used for canning preserves and is really inexpensive compared to ski wax. For a summer wax you are going to scrape off next winter it is fine.

dont put parafin on yer skis- it will jsut fuk up the bases if anything- spend 7$ on a used iron at the salavation army, DI whatever. spend 5$ and drip some cheap ski wax in there. melt well

Enlighten me how clear paraffin wax messes up your bases. Aren't ski specific waxes made up of mostly paraffin wax anyways? I am also talking about a full scrape and brass brush removal of excess wax before applying ski wax for the season.

Paraffin wax contains impurities such as oil and has a low melting point 47-67* most hydrocarbons and flourocarbons are 100-130*.

Also paraffin wax is rather tacky if i'm not mistaken is a ingrediant in surf wax which is sticky as hell.

I don't know about you but putting something sticky with nasty oils and dirty shit in my base does not sound like a good idea.
