Have you almost hit a bum?

So do all bums in major cities not care if they get hit by a car?

Today, I am turning left from Broadway on Park Avenue West. I am following this SUV that I can not see thru or around. He starts to brake so I immediately get into the lane to the left of me to go around him. Well, I immediately have to slam on my brakes becasue this bum is non-chelantly (sp?) jaywalking across the road.

For those who don't know Park Avenue West is a pretty busy street, especially during rush hour.

The guy didn't even flinch, he just kept walking - didn't even look at my car - didn't even try to run.

I know these guys don't have much, but I am just wondering if they honestly start to cross the road and hope to get hit. I think they do.

I wonder what would happen if I actually hit one? Do police know they do this? They must. Not that I would want to hit someone, but would I actually be in trouble? Probably not, becasue they are jay walking.
