I just picked up a pair of the BCA low fat climbing skins and have them cut to my skis and the tip and tail hardware is setup properly. I just tested them out in my backyard today and noticed that there is some space at the tip where snow was getting underneath the skin.
When setting the skins up with the skis I tried to make the tip area tight so that snow wouldn't get underneath. If any of you are familiar with the tip hardware setup...(if you aren't check it out )here ) the skin overlaps itself as it goes through the metal ring and sticks to itself on the other side. This creates a thicker section near the tip and less glued area to stick to the ski. Its only a little bit near the top. Is this normal? or should there be no snow getting underneath? At this point in time I'm thinking it would be difficult NOT to allow snow in, but being my first experience with skins I'm not sure.
