Photo TR: Cinco De Mayo en La Saladita y Troncones

Sometimes life deals you crap. This was not one of those times. My cousin is getting hitched in July so he worked a buddy of his for use of his house aka "Casa Bina" which sits on the beach just a click south of Troncones.

It did not suck. 16 of us headed south of the border for 5 days of bachelor party surfing. We are all JONGS in caps. The swell was pumping 7 - 10' for the duration and growing. This kept us mostly in the mush learning to ride scraps inside. We had a blast and espcaped without any major injuries or leagal issues. It would seem the trip is bound to become an annual event.

    Clearly we were slumming it.

beer 30 seemed to be a rather early endeavor most days...

The surf right in front of our shack was pure carnage...we almost lost 2 guys to an ill advised attempt to swim out through the 10' sets.

That'd be my little brother, one of the few in the group that actually can surf. That wave was breaking 10' plus and jacks up as a mile long wall without a peak. It's pretty much useless except as scenery, which it does well.

Those were some nice digs. Is that a left point in the Photo with the pick up truck? Other photos look like a river mouth. River mouths often mean Sharks. What's the shark situation?

The break is all left but it's considered a reef / beach break. It's more of a laggoon that fills in via the tide. We had no shark issues but the lagoon has a croc problem. We saw a few in the 9 foot range.

Croc or shark I guess it really doesn't matter what wants to take a bit out of your ass? Reminds me of a story a friend was on his Honeymoon in Costa Rica he and his new bride are hanging on this beach by a river mouth. He sees a nice left peeling on the other side of the rive. Pete convinces his wife to swim while he paddles his board with all the beach gear across the river after surfing and sunning they find a boat that will take them back across the river for just a few bucks. On the way back the boatmen ask if they want to check out the Crocs that hang out in the river. Petes new wife freaked when she saw the size of the Crocs that were hiding in the shade of overhanging trees just a 100 yards or so from where they swam across the river! They came close to a divorce on their honeymoon.

    nice pics.
too bad you dont have any of the boys who paddled out.

truncones is very heavy at 5ft and over.
la salidita is more forgiving wave when there is lots of swell.

also: pics dont show the current. very heavy and pulls anyone who is not very fit into the death pound.

next time: go in march or april. you get west north west swells. less of the southern hemi maddness.

Cool! You make me want to go to the beach to take pictures.

Some nice sunsets and that one b/wish one right after them are good images.

Shooting with a canon elph sd350 didn't really lend itself to action shots or capturing size at distance. The current that ripped you to the north was wicked and it proved to a be a real bitch getting out beyond the pound zone for JONG's like us.

MacDaddy, your guess is as good as mine on the www.

Thanks summit. I was impressed at what I was able to capture with that tiny cam and some patience.

La Saladita and Troncones are so much fun. Just the essentials and not over
developed "yet". Caught them both overhead in Feb.
SSSHHHH! I just need another couple trips before it's over run.
Go to Sayulita if your a kook (beginner) waikiki type wave and the word has
been out for a long time there.
