?For Red Baron or any other aspiring meteorologists…answers for all minions skiing...

    ....UT this weeknd

Red Baron I noticed that we have an approaching “weak” low pressure system, that’s not going to be able to push out the shitty super dominant high pressure that we are currently in, here in UT!

So my question is. How shitty is it going to be in the northern UT mountains over the weekend if this low pressure system only sends high thick clouds our way??

In other words are we fuked this Fri, Sat, when all this sun baked snow turns to DEATH CRUST, as these “non storm” clouds cover up the sun we have been enjoying at higher elevations this past week?

Is this a serious possibility or will the temps stay warm at elevation? My guess is NO!!
What is the probability % of Death Crust happening?

Red Baron, I know it may not be in your professional interest to tell us that this weekend will undoubtedly turn ugly and we shouldn’t ski unless you are Xover or BobMc, but I have a friend making a trip out this way from CO and I want to save him the trouble.

RB, PM me if you need to give me an answer under the radar. Thanks

    I wouldn't be, (and am not) too worried about this weekend;

    Here's the deal:

We have a little storm system for the mountains on Thursday night, maybe 2" tops, then a nice sunny day with a few high clouds on Saturday...then Sunday looks cloudy but still warm. 8000' temps should be in the low 20's to start the day, then in the mid-30's by afternoon...

So, based on that, I think the weekend will be fine; no death crusts - almost spring-like corn on Saturday, then Sunday things might be a bit firmer, based on less sunshine, but it'll still be warm enough so things won't crust over.

I have friends in from Kansas City and Tampa this weekend, and while they're a bit bummed to not be skiing powder, they're still happy with the good coverage and sunshine...

    (disclaimer; remember, it's a forecast not a promise... )

Oh, and I forgot - this foggy stuff will get blown out of here on Monday night into Tuesday, when we finally get a real storm in here - it won't bring huge snow totals, but it will get rid of the fog/smoke/haze in the air and re-open the storm track for Utah...

    Sweet dust on DEATH CRUST

Thanks RB, I love your forecast. I'm still gonna tell my buddy to hold off for a Powder weekend.

I'm prolly going up to Solitude and Alta this weekend see you there?

Cool, good move on holding off, I mean, your friend can go ski in low snow and crappy conditions any time, since he lives in Colorado, right???? (ok, low blow, I admit it)

I am off on Thursday and Friday, and plan on going to Deer Valley with my out of town guests on Thursday (don't ask), then some where else Friday, and probably won't ski this weekend - I'm tied up with Sundance parties & stuff and working 2pm to 10pm both days...
