Legal mag question... so NSR it is ridiculous...

Hey legal folks, and anyone who wants to learn something incredibly random that I have no knowledge of.

I have a question about country of origin labeling from a legal perspective. I am doing a little contract work for this vacuum cleaner company, and the question is this...

So many of the parts are sourced to China. So we know that the final product must say something to the order of "assembled in the US of US and Chinese parts), however, we are wondering if individual parts within the machine must retain their country of origin labeling or if they can be removed. Essentially in this one model, there is a motor with a label that lists model, seriel, country of origin, and etc, and teh company wishes to find out if they can replace the label and remove the country of origin...

I know this is incredibly random, but I know I have heard ramblings froma couple people about sourcing to China, so I figured some of you might know.

Thanks in advance, or totally berate me for such a random question...

I'm almost embarrassed to admit I know this:

    - Individual parts don't have to be tagged.

    - Just the outside needs the country of origin label.

    It's an FTC requirement

Now if anyone can find me the nutritional information for 100g of Meyprogen emulsifier by Rhodia foods, my consulting work for the day will be done!

Dont worry, I will push things back to the community as best I can (who needs a deal on vacuum cleaner parts?)... but seriously.

Hey LeeLau, in case you are reading this still... Do you know if the aforediscussed company can actually put its own label on the individual part (not remove it altogether) and remove the "made in China" piece (just on the individual part).

I know, more weird stuff, this client was not all that clear...

Thanks, and I promise to return the favor down the road...

Off the cuff, I'd think that may be a matter of licensing agreements. When the vac-co buys the motors, does the sales agreement specify that vac-co is buying the rights to do whatever it wants with the piece? Does that even matter? If I buy a Jaguar, but decide to take off the leaper and badging and call it a Yeti (the better to pick up a cougar), does Jaguar have any cause of action against me?

Probably only if you try to sell it as your own product produced by two lovemaking yetis...
