Exclamation Is AKPM Heading Towards Being a Statistic?

AKPM's thread truly has me worried for him. What does the collective think?

I really am not trying to be a dink, I'm trying to be a friend. If I hear a lot of negative comment about this thread I will delete it.

I think everyone near his age is a walking bomb. When I was his age, I was a wildman, thank God I didn't have a back country to play in or I would probably be dead.Fast cars, motorcycle racing, skiing like a downhiller, shit, he at least is making an effort to learn. I was pretty much living on reflexes.
My opinion... I think he'll do all right. A few close calls like anyone his age but I think he will learn from his mistakes. Heck, he now makes sure the horizon is properly positioned in his photos.

AKPM: you REALLY need to listen to what people are saying here in the thread about the avy, this is important, SERIOUSLY! Be fucking careful.

Listening has never been his strong point from what I've seen. The endless need for chest thumping has been. Hence he has been on ignore for a long time and yes he is on his way to being a statistic.

Has anybody ever had a 'conversation' here with AKPM? It seems he is on transmit mode only. He very rarely responds to anybody whether they have something complimentary to say or otherwise.

Look at Max G and Humble - both of these are young guys who seem to learn from the collective wisdom. AKPM just seems to shrug it off. I've often tried to give the guy a bit of constructive criticism but nothing ever comes back. Nada.

Let's face it, he's been posting pictures here for what must be four years and still hasn't figured out how to focus his lens.

Although never by fate in the mountains, the only reason i am alive to sport the texas cape and be as generally useless as i am today was unquestionably the size of my bag of luck.
I generally aviod the AKPM beater threads, and i'm not bashing you now, but watch out man. You're rarely lucky enough to get more than one near death experience, and i've been to enough funerals to KNOW that. These people have a tremendous ammout of knowledge, wisdom, and experience to share, certainly more than you (or I) and it would serve you greatly to listen to them. Some of them really care too.

Regardless, you're well on your way to proving them right if you dont start being more careful.
No, the real point is, I don't give a damn

I just made it through my first season in the BC. In about 30 days in the Wasatch I heard one "woomp" and triggered a very small wet slide on a fall. I feel lucky that neither situation turned out to be a serious one.

Skiing the back country takes knowledge. I took the mentor approach, as well as accruing an amount on this forum and various books. The former can provide some of it, the latter can provide some; neither can provide enough.

AKPM, it seems, has neither of these, nor has he taken classes, nor has he any common sense.

This guy is doomed. Watching a friend take a slide past me would question my entire lifestyle in the BC. I probably wouldn't eat that night. I probably wouldn't post about it in this forum, especially if I was being such a buffoon.

This has been a bad enough season with serious injury and death. Patrick, your death would seriously fuck everyone on this forum up, as well as your friends and loved ones.

Get your shit together and quit this nonsense.
You look like I need a drink.

He needs to get to the upper part of the learning, and more importantly judgment, curve. But I think there are a lot of people on this board who wouldn't post openly about similar screw-ups, or who get a pass on statments such as "confidence inspiring beacon"...I don't know that he's all that different from many people except that he gets out a lot and doesn't censor his posts.

I also find it interesting that classes are considered to make people safer by themselves. A lot of AKPM's mistakes, such as once digging a pit after skiing a slope, aren't due to lack of education per se.

Finally, aren't the numbers this year for accidents pretty much in line with the past few years? I realize there have been some very public figures affected by tragedy one way or the other, and don't want to downplay that by any means, but basically last I saw the numbers look like most of the recent years.

But yeah, AKPM, it would be a good idea to think about how to get to the upper end of the judgment curve in particular quickly.

Cool idea. Why am I planning to do a LOT of bumps next year?

Anyway, somebody please post a link to kiddo's avy. I miss everything around here. We do have a village, I see.
