Dear George, you should know by now that rock-n-roll precludes the use of any instruments other than a guitar, bass, and drums.

    Sincerely,

i have to agree with both of those. anything with Clarence Clemmons has to be on the list.

But i think Rosalita is one of the best rock songs with a saxaphone in it.

Anything by Sweep the Leg Johnny.

Punk. Sometimes in 5/8 and 7/4 and other math-rock time signatures. And the vocalist doubles on saxophone.

Yet somehow it rocks without pretension.

I saw them once, the singer fell through ceiling mid-set... serious.
Half the band is now in Just a Fire with Fred from June of 44 and Hoover. No saxophone, but they stole a trumpet from the 8th grade band.

Horn section. RFTC most certainly rocks as does just about any use of a horn section. Sax solos, however, do not rock.

I like NOFX's "Life Won't Wait" but I think Morphine should dominate this thread; one of the only bands where the sax stood out on its own, yet also fit in perfectly.

Oh, and George Thoughrogood (I know, mispelled) is some of the corniest music ever. It sounds like something the writers of South Park made up as a joke for the show.

I can't believe nobody mentioned the 2 most famous sax solos in "rock:"

Bob Seger - "Turn the Page"
    Gerry Rafferty - "Baker Street"

Horn Sections: Tower of Power - if they don't rock you then you are dead. The work they did w/Little Feat on the live "Waitin' for Columbus" is just incredible.

BTW - Branford had a bumpin band called Buckshot LeFonque that blurred genre lines.

Funny, I'm listening to SF right now and just bumped up the Dead Flowers thread. And then there's this thread sitting right there. Bobby Keys fucking ruled on that album. Exile too. He was also great in the Chuck Berry special "Hail! Hail! Rock and Roll." If you haven't seen that documentary/concert, you should.
