beta on the canyons in UT

    hey Utards,

am coming out to your fait state next week. my buddy does some stuff w/sundance, and as such, i have a free room in his rented house during sundance. i usually ski alta/bird when out there, but since i will be in PC and have no wheels, looks like the Canyons is my best choice for making turns in between the partying @ PC.

So, any Utards out there ski the Canyons? Care to share some beta with a fellow pow-junkie? I know how closely we all guard our secret stashes, but i would glady give up 10 yrs of inside knowledge gained at Alpine Meadows in Tahoe to a fellow mag if they were coming out for a few days.....

also, if i do decide to hit alta one day, how could i get from PC to Alta taking public trans? thx in advance for all your help!

You need to check in with PowStash. I believe he heads up the Canyons' marketing Dept.

Paging PowStash......my new best friend ;-) Do you really run Mrktg @ the Canyons? How about hooking up a day or two and showing me the goods? In exchange, I will hook you up via my buddy for the shows he is runnign at Sundance: Joe Jackson, John Hyat, X, All American Rejects, can't remeber the other artists he has lined up. He rents out a bar ea. night for these bands...i will get ya on the guest list and on his bar tab ;-)

sundance is absolootely the best time to ski Park City. every bed in town is full of wanna be moviestars, so noone is on the slopes.
All the PC resorts are about the higher chairs,
    Jupiter & Mckonikies bowls @ PCMR & 9990 @ the Canyons
    both will be deserted.
    PS is the knowledge here.

as far as transpo to Alta or Solitude, Powder Express has the best rates 801-942-6680

sundance is a trip, even with hookupss you will be waiting in lines unless you are Ben & Jennifer or you get there when your buddy does to set up

thx for the beta woodsy. yeah, i heard that as well: that sundance is actually, despite the crowds, the best time to ski PC & Canyons, b/c all the hollywood-type gapers stay off the mountains (or are on the groomers sporting their Bogners), and the locals avoid PC as well due to the craziness......

plus, its prime Cougar stalking time ;-) i usually avoid crazy crowds/events like this, but my buddy's hook up is too sweet to pass up. it's a 50 min. flight from reno to slc, free house to stay in PC, free access to all these shows he is running, free booze....just have to pay for some lift tix basically....so gotta go!

    freshies,

Yes, I am the mang here in PC and at The Canyons. Sundance is a fun time of the year, the town is packed with PIB's (People in Black) but the hills are empty. Sundance is known for bringing mad quantities of snow with it when it comes to town each year so you'll be skiing pow-stashes with me by day and partying like the rock star you wish you were by night.

I'm headed to the hill right now for some turns but will be back in the TPS report world by about 3pm.

You might have to look hard for those pow stashes....it's warm and baking the south slopes right now. Snow is still good on the north slopes though freshies. I'm sure I'll see you out there when powstash takes out.

BTW, powstash doesn't run the marketing out there, cause if he was the one doing it he'd talk with a wicked bad Maine'r accent and would ski in a one piece on eurocarving skis and would imagine himself discovering a groomed run on Dreamscape........

yep - at set-up: AK Launchers w/FR's & some Scarpa Denali's...was wondering if i wanted to drag all that gear too to PC, what with the usual alpine quiver i will be bringing, it adds up to a lot of gear to haul with me. b/c you then also gotta haul the backpack, shovel, probe, skins, beeper........

is it worth haulign this stuff for a day of BC? I am hoping (praying is more like it) that it will dump a few days while i am out there so i can ski some fresh @ PC and Canyons.......but if this high pressure is still sitting over UT next Friday, then i will prob'ly haul the AT gear too....

I'll ski for a couple hours before going to work if we've had a big storm roll through; otherwise, I'm more of a weekend warrior. And, I don't currently have any A/T skis, so I'm relegated to the inbounds or close-in B/C. I would certainly understand if you get a better offer.

But I'd love to ski with you Sunday at The Canyons or in the AM if we get some fresh while you're here.

Bring AT gear for sure. You'll be sorry if you don't. Some will be gotten.

    You've got mail.

I'll be in Aspen on the night of the 18th and 19th. I'm down to go out any other time though....I might be able to do the morning of the 18th. Just have powstash get a hold of me. I'll be doing paparatzi duty for one of the clubs out here every night of Sundance, but thanks a bunch for the offer on getting me in!

I'd say the canyons since PCMR has no BC access, but I have passes at both so either works for me.

With powstash leading the tour, goods will be had.
