Was riding Lynn Woods today on a Specialized Enduro Expert - man, that was fun. This bike makes it oh so easy ...

    Yeah,

I could tell you how hardtails make you a better rider and all...

but now that you've ridden around here you see how much more fun it all is on a fully. Enduro is a great choice for affordable freeride. Look for used Gemini's and SC Bullits (there's always a few of these around for sale- even here on TGR) in a similar price range.

Edit: http://www.bustedspoke.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=22946, up late playing internet

19" magnesium hardtail, 8-speed XT with XTR rear der. 36 spoke Mavic wheels -- not super light but strong and not heavy. Like I said, measure seat-to-pedal if you're interested and I can tell you whether it might fit.

You're probably looking for a fully now, but if you can't find anything in your budget let me know (older hardtail = cheap).

Florian...I think you are the same height/tad bit taller than me, and I usually ride a 19.5/20 for XC bikes. I think this might be a bit too small, unless you run a lot of seatpost and a long stem. Maybe some drop bars. That would be cool.

For all those looking for used mountain bikes I got two I'm looking to unload. 1. 2002 17.5" Trek Fuel 100. SID, XT/XTR, Float RL, OCLV rear, racelight stuff $1000 + ship
    2. 2000 17.5 (or maybe 17") Trek 7000. Mostly LX, Judy XC , (basically stock save for an LX rear derailleur and a new chain which I need to put on )
    $400 +ship

Not trying to hijack the thread, but figured I'd put them out even though they would be a little small for Klammer. Don't really want to sell the Fuel but need the money. Also check out the Yeti in Gear Swap. If I had the $, it might be in my garage soon. Once again looks a little small for Franz, but sick ride.

Thanks, Fuel looks really interesting, but I really need a large frame - sorry.

So, I'm looking at 2 used Specialized Enduro Comp (2003 and 2004) which are mostly stock. Any thoughts on how much I should pay for these?

Cool, so it seems like I got myself a new bike. I followed biggins' suggestion and bought a used Enduro Comp with a couple of upgrades that weren't mentioned in this post:

    http://www.bustedspoke.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=22946

$800 is pretty good I'd say - not super cheap but it's local pickup.

Nice. $800 is a great buy-in for a freeride bike. That frame is solid. The upgrades are nice too (solid chainguard/guide). That's a pretty perfect bike for just about anywhere. Good get.

    Viva la freeride!

See ya at Lynn if this rain ever lets up...

Yeah, can't wait. I have my very last set of exams EVER in two weeks, so I'll be at Lynn quite often after that.

I just finished a two week long used bike search, and my advice echo's alot of what others said,: ebay and forums.

I also found that Craigslist (especially Denver) has tons of used bikes, just check in the morning and evening. Demo bikes will be coming up for sale soon, too.

IMHO, I wouldn't go with a retail-priced bike for $1000 (retail's for suckers, anyway). The difference between a $1000 and a $1700 bike is huge. So if you find something used or a demo, you can get way more bike for your buck.

Oh, come to think of it, I know a guy who is selling a used Titus Switchblade for $1100, shipped. There is a pretty good dent in the downtube, but the rest of the bike (including the build) is top-notch. I'll ask him if he's still selling it, I'll be talking to him tomorrow.

Good luck, and stay on it with the money in hand, so when a good deal does come up, you can jump on it. The good deals are out there, you just have to be Obsessive/Compulsive about it.

Not as squish as the Enduro, but a nice bike.
