    Thumbs up

Liked the sequence shot, nice position of the skis, head-bomb-hole- and roll-out landing.
Skiing, where my mind is even if my body isn't.

Wasn;t it a great weekend to be out!? We were out in the BC Friday through Sunday skiing all the terrain that you can see in Two's pic 11190117. One of the best ski weekends of my life!

Definitely. We had a great time checking out lines and goofing around on Saturday waiting for East Castle to open. And yesterday I spent the day telegaping everywhere... even did a tram run. Oddly enough, tele AK Launchers, ice (guess I should have expected that on the lower half of the Bird) and me are not an excellent combination... but still had an awesome day and felt like I made a lot of progress. Beautiful day for playing around and enjoying the views.

    Buzz on skis??

    http://www.edmoweb.com/ronski.jpg

    Buzzworthy returns to skiing!

TR: So I leave the house Sunday morning to a very cold and foggy morning (10 degrees maybe), putting the snowboard on the rack, just in case (hoping down in that it stays on the rack). I had a real positive attitude about sking this crisp morning and proceed to head south to pick up Andy and Twoplanker.

8 AM: Hit the road for a short trip up out of the soup and into bluebird skies just around the corner into Logan Canyon.

We always pass this spring that comes out of the rock on the way up, so we were a bit early and decide to check it out, as it is kinda cool to see. After a quick meeting, we jump back in the Jeep and head to the decently empty parking lot for 9AM.

I jump out, get dressed and walk by renting butt to the shop. To my surprise, a demo package was just $5 more and I could try out 3 skis for the day. Cool, Visa supplied!! Ended up on the short side first thing with a pair of 170 Rossi B2's. Snap in and hit the chair. Nearing the top, the butterflies kicked in just a bit. I can do this, I can do this is what I keep telling myself. No I am not going to hurt myself, I tell myself while thinking of the knee last year and the ankle this year.

Unload succesful!!! The sun is out and warming the groomers I was about to "rip the shit out of" ( ). Stretch a bit and point em.

I'm skiing and linking turns right away!!!

Get to the bottom and I had a permagrin, and it never really left my face till later in the day as 2P and Andy dragged this up and coming photog (whatever) out to their cliff dropping playground. That story later.

So I load again, feeling the burn that I have not felt for 8 years now in my lower legs. WOW!! Get a nice 10 minute rest to the top this time and away we go again!!!! This time I'm all about business and it magically clicks, BOOM, I'm pickin up speed and (almost) carving turns at a decent pace downhill. Feeling more comfortable with the speed every hundred yards, I open it up to see if I got evena fraction of what used to be with this skier turned snowboarder turning skier again. Feeling good and the permagrin is still there. I took a few spins to the ground, but hey you gotta fall sometimes, right??

Meanwhile as my confidence boosts and I am trying to carve the turn instead of the slight "skidding" I was doing most of the day.

Called the guys (who are playing on the backside) on the radio to tell them I am successfully heading down the mountain on SKIS and having an absolute blast and a half! Damn, I forgot how much fun skiing is.

We all hook up in another 3 groomers runs for me, each one more and more comfortable and re-learning to pole plant and keep my upper body from too much movement. The burn in my calves is off the charts, but I love it and welcome more. Bring it, I say to the set of 2 planks attached to the bottom of my legs. And they did!!

We head to the other side of the mountain (permagrin now starting to pull the skin on my lips even farther apart as things continue to become more and more fun). Hit the triple together and I get a nice critque of what I can do better from Andy and 2P. 2P even goes as far as saying, "From watching you ski for the last few runs, I'd say that you are a better skier than a snowboarder, based on the speed you are going." Nice to hear a compliment, as I was told many times that day that I am not doing bad at all. Of course, there is always room for improvement so I thank them and continue practicing my turns. I got a long way to go still.

We spot the cliff band we have been out to before from the triple and they decide I am good enough to get through the trees and traverse on out there. I am a bit hesitant, but follow em anyway like a lost puppy dog. We hit the traverse and my skis yell up at me, "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING???", as I have NEVER skied powder/leftovers, or anything that resembles it. I grew up skiing the Poconos in PA and there was no such thing as powder, not that I can remember. I yell back down to my ankles, knees and feet, "WE ARE DOING THIS, NOW SHUT UP AND KEEP GOING!!!" Massive work ensues as I have a real hard time controlling my skis in the buttery leftovers. 2P was kind enough to find a stash that was open enough and silky smooth, and told me to try and link a few turns. I DID, 4 of em and it was lovely!! Then back to flailing like a wild man, dodging trees and hoping I was heading in the proper direction. 2P and Andy were very patient and led me out to their playground for the next hour or so. So I finally get out there, set up and start shooting the fun and many laughs that ensued. I set up down hill of them, just off to the side of the potential bomb hole. What a view I had of the fun/gymnastics that happened shortly thereafter. Classic hucking commenced and the landing were even better!!

So after the gravity assisted fun out on the playground, I traverse out straight to my friend, Mr. Groomer and my legs stop screaming at me. At this point I am quite tired and so I continue this adventure for a few more runs, as the sun is rapidy fading and I want MORE!!! This is where the video was shot of me skiing and 2P frame grabbed that pic above, which shows a very tired skiing Buzz not skiing the form I was earlier.

I had a difficult time getting to sleep last night, even though I was DEAD tired. I keep replaying the day over and over again. It was that good of a day.

I think this was the most fun day I have had this season!!

BTW, I never did demo another ski, as I was having a blast on the B2's and they worked for me.

We weren't skiing anything anyone could call backcountry, just poking about the lift accessible stuff near Beaver Mountain. Basically, just going as far out in each direction and still making it back to the lift.

I want to come skin James Peak with you. Next week maybe?

Oh man, you had to go there. We set up my camera for a 10 second delay and then jumped in front of the camera. The result was something extra-ordinarilty stupid looking and reminescent of a Charlie's Angles photo shoot or something from the Icy Hot Stuntaz web site. I think Andy (he's the black, jewish guy on the left) looks particularly pimpin.

Yeah, that's a gem. Look at his tips - the bend in his skis must have been tremendous.
