prayers needed - another spinal injury.

just got the word that my best ski bud since middle school broke his back in multiple places mountain biking today...also broke his sternum and a couple of ribs on the back side. he is in surgery now and will be for several more hours getting his spine rodded. he couldn't feel his legs when his sister saw him before surgery but apparently was getting tingling right before they put him under...

FUCK - please send some prayers if you got some extras.
    Craig Kelly is my co-pilot.

thanks for the thoughts folks. no word on him yet. everyone i have spoken to says it is a very good sign that he was getting tingling in his feet - sign that his spinal cord is likedly not transected and might just be swollen.

i have never put up a "vibes" thread before. they have to be good for something though...lots of strangers around the country pulling for someone has got to be good for something.

i am glad he is not dead! i checked my phone and saw i had missed a call from our other best bud from high school and the injured's little sister and i almost puked on the spot.

So the surgery went well - they rodded his spine and put some other gear in there. When he came out of surgery though he couldn't see but could wiggle his toes, but couldn't tell that he was doing it. They got worried about the vision problem and took him to Denver in an ambulance (he lives in Vail and was at the VVMC). The trip was scary but went fine and they aren't sure what is causing the vision problem but it is slowly starting to come back. He can move his left leg and right toes. So, progress is happening for sure!

Not really sure how it happened - he was on a downhill section on a road with drainage ditches and went over one funny. He definitely endo-ed onto a rock on his back, but his rim was totally fucked so I am guessing he broke his sternum on his stem.

Thanks for the vibes - they are working!
