Good on ya ice and everybody else joining in. I smoked for 20 years and quit almost 10 years ago; August 26, 1996. As long as you REALLY want to, or at least commit that you HAVE too, you'll do it. NO cheating. Your last cigarette has to be your last. Burn that day into your memory. I clearly remember my last smoke. I did the patch for a week to take the edge off and was good to go from there on. Every once in a while I still get a whiff of one and it smells like a great steak. However, most of the time they just really smell like shit to me now. Standing next to a smoker in the elevator who's fresh off their break is enough to keep me off of them forever. I couldn't even imagine starting again.

    way to go, quitters!

my dad smoked for nigh on 30 years and finally quit when I was 15. He used the Nicoderm CQ patch for a while and then weaned himself off it to chewing bubble gum. He was a gum chewing machine, I tell you. But he hasnt smoked since and it has been smoke-free for 10 years!

So stock up on Winterfresh & Dubble Bubble. :-P

Good Luck! I will have to think of something to give up too as a show of solidarity.

Well I don't smoke, but I'm trying to quite masturbating...

But seriously, the world thanks you. You will be happy if you are able to stick with it.

I expect that eventually I will be happier than I am now. But "Happy"? Like I'll be stoked all the time and just sit around giggling?

    Maybe not.

Good luck, mang. With the whole world going smoke free (which I absolutely love as NJ just went smoke free this weekend), it'll be easier for you.
At first I thought that said Mrs. Roadtrip and was gonna ask: whatwhatwhat? All that red wine is catching up to me.

Question: Once Ice is walking around grinning all happy and shit, who takes over the whole sarcastic/snarky/cranky old man of TGR crown? Paging Mr. Pinnnner....

No, not sitting around all the time giggling, more like standing on top of a ridge yelling down at your freinds to hurry up thinking about how you never used to be this fast. Believe me, theres plenty of joy right there.

My biggest problem is that I really like smoking.
I don't really want to quit but I know it's a good thing for me to do.

If there are any bets placed, the smart money is on me caving first.
Not that I want to cave but.......................you know.

I've smoked for nearly 10 years now (shit... that long already?!?) and I really need to quit too. Much as I like it, it tastes like shit, costs me a fortune and I know it's killing me.

Monday sounds like a good day, so if it's alright by you (Ice and co) I'll be joining you as smoke free from Monday

This is great - congrats to all setting the goal!

Trying to think of something I'm addicted to that I can give up to join and lend moral support. I know! I'll give up the TGR board....wait, that won't work....

As posted in Gimp Central, I'm off cookies again. As long as no one offers me homemade ones, I think I can hang in there.

OK, I'll take up smoking on the 24th just to even things out a bit. Someone has to be looking out for big tobacco.
So how much will I need to be smoking to cover all you quitters?

Wait, you weren't all talking about smocking, were you? Because I don't think I could ever do that.

In solidarity I will give up being an insufferable know-it-all on Monday. That may be harder than giving up smoking was...

My housemate still smokes. I've known him for years and backpacked a lot with him. He's taller than me and used to be a lot faster. I'd always be catching up to him. Now it's the other way around, I'm the one waiting at the top of the mountain while he stops to take breathers.

Congrats and good luck to all!
