Absolutely! Good luck iceman. We're striving for a 100% smoke-free environment here on TGR. I've been worried about the effects of second-hand smoke coming through my computer

    Good luck Ice!

In honor of your life changing endeavor, I will cease my 3 bucket a day soda habit on Monday.

good luck you all, and congrats to A-wreck for stepping up and joining the crew. I quit last December after smoking since I was 15. I had tried once before but fucked it up. This time I was in a btter space mentally and got it done. Know what the main difference was for me that allowed me to make it this time? Not fucking cheating!! I tortured myself the first time I tried to quit, bumming cigs here and there for the entire time. Drove me nuts after awhile, fighting the urge to cheat again on an hourly basis forever. I finally caved and ended the charade.

So my advice is if you're ging to sack up and quit, don't ever cheat! Every hour and day that goes by without cheating is like you are building up an investment account that holds all your sacrifices and willpower. The bigger that investment gets, the stronger the desire gets to not fuck it up and start from scratch again. Good luck.

Ms. road trip is finishing (god willing) her Masters Thesis on predictors of quit success rates.

You have #1 covered (quit in numbers).

Next up, using medication and involving a professional and / or quit center assistance.

Good luck, mang. With the whole world going smoke free (which I absolutely love as NJ just went smoke free this weekend), it'll be easier for you.

Good luck Ice and others, I've never been a (cig) smoker so I've got no stories of inspiration for you. And no I'm not giving up booze or sex to lend you moral support.

This is REALLY good advice. The longer you go, the stronger your resistence will be; you won't want to waste all that time you have already invested. At least that is what worked for me. I think it is a little bit different a process for everyone, so you kind of have to figure out what will work for you.

It's pretty hard to smoke a cigarette with water pouring around you.

As for the damage to your skin, moisturize frequently.

I've been planning on quitting for a while, taking this stupid desk job has really increased the impact of cigarettes on my fitness level. I've already backed off to ultra lights and cut back by about 1/2 of what I was smoking, so I'm ready.

I'm in. Let's put this nasty habit behind us. Damn I've enjoyed it though.
Well, I've still got some time to say goodbye.....

How can you stand there smilin'
    After all you've done
You know it seems to make you happy
    When you've hurt someone
    Twice before you fooled me
    With your deceivin' and lyin'
Come in and close the door
One more time, one more time

Yeah you've been gone so long
    No one knows where
And you say that you still love me
    Then show me you care
'Cause you got what it takes sweet mama
To make a man feel fine
So I'll take the word of a liar
One more time, one more time

    Girl you've got me hungry
    Losin' my mind
I know I'm playin' with fire
    Get burned everytime
Yes I'm a fool for you baby I can't deny
But I got to have your sweet love
One more time, one more time

    Girl you've got me hungry
    Losin' my mind
I know I'm playin' with fire
    I get burned everytime
Yes I'm a fool for you mama I can't deny
But I got to have your sweet love
One more time, one more time

Yes I'm her fool once more
I can read her brown eyes
But when the rooster crows tomorrow
Well its her turn to cry
I'm headed down that old road
    She lost her free ride
So tonight I'll take what I paid for
One more time, one more time
    One more time

    Thumbs up

Good on ya buddy! I was thinking the ultimatum was the other. Whew!!

Ice, I quit 10 or 11 months ago, just threw it down one day after thinking to myself that I did not want my daughter to grow up associating that smell with Dad. I am 31 and started at 14. Up and quit, have not touched one since.

Now, the hardest part for me was "subsituting". That led to a different problem that I had to tone back down. Be careful there is my best advice.

I know have lost an inch on my beer gut, have a clearer head as of late and no smokes or even think about em.

You and others joining in, you won't be sorry.

    I applaud you.

J, just do it. What are you really waiting for is the question to ask yourself.

You took the time to post you should quit, so as Yoda would say, there is no try, do or do not.

    And happy birthday!

Thanks Buzz. I am weak though. I'll admit, I love to smoke. I know I need to quit for health reasons, but it tastes so damn good!

J, cigs taste fucking horrible after you don't have one for 2 weeks.

I see excuses, you are not ready to quit.

stopped smoking while sober was a cinch. when booze is involved, it's a different story. though CO is making it easier by legislating smoking from bars and eating establishments.

For me it was Trident Blue Sugar-free Gum. Had to wean myself off that later so I wouldn't walk around looking like a cow chewing its cud.
