If there's low interest in an item and they're helping out a maggot, that's one thing....but not contributing to the community and at the same time taking advantage of it doesn't seem cool to me.

Soooo, what makes us a maggot? Is it just someone who posts here once, or is it someone that becomes part of this community?

I think there needs to be some sort of criteria standard to be met before someone can obtain maggot status. Thoughts?
How about not giving a fuck about having to meet some made up criteria on internet message board to be a "maggot"?

    Poor spelling?

    Bad grammar?

Posting of nude pics of gf/sister?

Trolling, using big words, posting nsfw pics and spewing about how rad so and so is would all seem to qualify as well.

    1) Declare hatred of Michael McDonald.
    2) Do not talk about SAC.
    3) Do not talk about SAC.
    4) Recommend a new ski for 5 other pre-maggots when they ask the inevitable question.
    5) Sell something that is nearly new for dirt cheap.
    6) Cut the tails off of some twin tips.

You contribute, you post stoke, and you ski with maggots. Need I say more?

i do think that at the center of the board are relationships that extend beyond internet anonymity. that's one of the reason why some of the stories are so entertaining, because i can identify the people involved. gives the TR, joke or whatever a different quality. there are people around here who are quite different in some ways but alike in certain other ways. maybe friendship and shared experiences and longevity of interest are what help folks feel more like part of a group?

the cashier at the supermarket made fun of me today for having only a cheap bottle of bubbly, a box of wheat thins and my albertson's card... don't listen to me, i'm a loser.

You don't think that's true, phUnk? Or maybe it's just usually the case if you are on this board?

Actually, why am I even bothering to respond to this.

Also, overuse of any of the following words/phrases:

    sick
    bro
    der pooperhausen
    positive vibes
    powpow

    etc etc etc ....

Edit: How could I possibly forget "steeze"? Duh.

I doubt that someone who never posts would consider himself a maggot. Regardless, who cares? There's going to be asshats who ski lines they learn about here, and never contribute shit to the board. not much we can do about it it without taking away what makes this board special in the first place. there's also people who contribute a lot of stoke but who, in the minds of others, might not qualify as a maggot based on the "negative/positive contribution" criteria.

So what would be "their" definition of a maggot be? Would be someone who only posts on here, or actually gets out and skis with the community?

Great poitn but the only way to solve that is to make the whole board or TRs viewable only to logged in registered members and that would be lame...

The same people who used to get mad at me for saying "it's only the internet" now apparently don't care. How interesting.

To me, a maggot is informative, witty, funny, controversial, talented and friendly. He/she can be a bitch...but not always. Of course, post count counts, unless the posts are planted merely to pad the posts. Ya know, just a person who makes a contribution to the community.

As far as Gear Swap goes, a first post to snipe or sell doesn't do it.

I have no good answers. But, let's talk about Max, for example. He posted on this board a lot when he lived down South far from skiing. Met a few people, but for the most part, his interaction with the community was online.

I don't think of people who I haven't met as any less of maggots than those I haven't. I think of someone as a maggot if I know them through either form of interaction, so to speak. But, really, I don't care. It's an intriguing question, though.

If I believed this was more than "only the internet," I'd be more likely to believe that a maggot is a maggot regardless of whether he gets out and skis (or drinks, in the case of the poor east coast mags ) with others from the board.

I think anyone here would say that Max was me. Isn't everyone? Anyhow, the people who post on here regularly would know who Max is. I think that qualifies.

How about this? When someone asks for "change for a nickel", or "are you a maggot", should that question translate to more than "do you post on the internet"?, or are you a member of a community. The latter seems to make more sense to me.

I was just kind of curious what everyones thoughts were. In the end it doesn't really matter that much, but I'm bored, patiently awaiting American Idol.....anyone else hooked on it?

    There are online Graveyards?

The only TR I've ever posted was about a night of drinking some really vile green poison last August in DC. That disqualifies me. However, I did it with a fellow maggot, so that qualifies me.

I couldn't skin up Superior if you gave me a million dollars (but I'd die trying) so that disqualifies me. OTOH, I do know more than 4 Utards by REAL name so that may qualify me again.

Dibs? Isn't that some Bum in Solly? On a related issue, this isn't E-Bay - you can sell or NOT sell to whomever you please.

I learned in my first and only gear swap that it's best to know the buyer.

Many offers/questions from sub 10 posters who turned out to be major pains in the ass, looking for a lot more off on already super cheap deals, and other hassles. In the end, I'd rather the gear rot in my closet or go free to a close friend than wind up resold on ebay or recycled to another online community for profit.
