Saturday was Mtnjam's birthday and wanted to get up to Copper. For those not knowing this mountain is on the North Side of the Sawtooths. We left Boise at 6:00AM. We arrived in the Bull Trout Lake pullout and could hardly tell it was the pullout because there was so much snow.
As we geared up it was snowing lightly but it was the wet and heavy. We started the climb and it started to snow harder and harder. As we emerged out of the trees the wind had really picked up.
We got near the top and the visibility was poor and still snowing.
We got to the top and it was still really poor visibility. The whiskey made it all better. There are some huge cornices up there. We wanted to skied the North East side but the wind was depositing snow on the North Facing slope. We opted for a route down the front side. We made a lap and then came back up for a second lap and as we where hiking it cleared up a little.
When we got near the top the fog and snow rolled back in and we couldn't see anything again. As we skied our second lap I took a header and broke my googles.![]()
We arrived back at the truck and had some nice cold Mirror Pond waiting.![]()
As we drove back we stopped and looked at the Payette and its raging still. I think it was flowing at 11300 CFS.![]()
I was expecting to see Conundrum float by.
Sorry for lack of ski photos.
