    Salt Lake Trail Conditions

Rode the shoreline above the aves today (what better way to spend Easter, eh), Dry Creek to bobsled.
Dry creek had at least 10 "river" crossings; I have never seen that much water coming down that drainage. Other than that, trail is in really good shape up out of the canyon.
Bobsled, on the other hand, you might want a fucking kayak for. It is running like crazy. We hiked back out and went to the Terrace Hills trailhead instead.
All in all, really fun day out. My wife was putting the hurt on too. I think she is going to be fast this year.

The snow that we are about to get all the way down to the valley isn't gonna help things much. But I imagine after this storm, the shoreline will dry out in a hurry (dry creek will stop running quicker than you think). Apparently, mill creek pipeline is good to go up to the gate. And just think, in 3 months, we'll be riding the crest.

Dry Creek was an oxymoron today. Up city creek, out and back is that way to go right now.

In hindsite, think I'd have done the out and back.

LDJ, you have me drooling, I can't wait to ride the crest this summer. Thinking I need to get south and hit porcuipine this weekend to tide me over. This weekend's sun I think really pushed me over the edge, I am officially sick of winter.

Got out last night, dry creek was even less "dry" than a week ago. The river crossings actually make it a little bit more fun though.
First shoreline ride on my new bike (liquid), by the way, can't wait to get it on bobsled in a few weeks.

Josh, as Spider mentioned, you should try riding north from city creek. This is what I've been mostly doing recently, just to avoid "dry" creek. You ride the shoreline north from the mouth of city creek and it climbs a huge hill up to a saddle above ensign peak. From there you can continue along the shoreline down into north salt lake, and whenever you want, come back for a nice 8-10 mile out-and-back. Its all dry, and has some nice views of the SLC valley.

I think I will have to take your advice, I have never rode that section, but I can imagine the views would be sick up there. Thanks

LDD: I've never ridden that section either. So do you climb City Creek and then go north? I'm confused about where it starts. Do you get up to the I Street area? Or does it start lower like where the City Creek trail starts?

I think the trail they are referring to is actually more west than north of city creek (or there could be another trail i dont know about). you get on it just where the city creek road leaves the big hair pin turn in the main road, and it follows the bench up behind the ridiculously large homes and eventually comes out at the radio towers. i'm not aware of any trail you can ride that actually leaves from farther up city creek.

I am going to check it out tomorrow night for sure, but I looked at a map, and that sounds right from what I saw, looks like it goes up just barely east of the hair pin turn that 11th ave takes in city creek. I love new trails, I can't believe I have never rode that section before.
Would go tonight, but I got a lawn to mow, and I have an amber ale that is ready to bottle. Domestic duties call.

Dude, don't even consider it. Realize that you have to ride UP first.

Yeah Wilcox nailed it; thats the trail I am thinking of. The hill up to the saddle is a good 2.5 miles from City Creek, and its steep. Will certainly test your legs. If you are in the mood for a ride of similar length but not as hilly, you can always ride east/south from Dry Creek behind the University Hospital. Then when you get near the Zoo, climb up and ride back towards the U on the Rollercoaster. Interesting series of steep, rolly hills.

Or, if you are so inclined, the front side of Glenwild in Kimball Junction is good to go. You can connect it to the Blackhawk switchbacks for a nice 6-7 mile loop. 24/7 and the little DH trails are still too muddy.

Oh, I wasn't really considering it. I just found it interesting.

Besides, if I had to climb up, then I would have to raise my seat. And that requires just too much effort.

    Map

Heres a map to some of the trails up there:

    http://www.utahmountainbiking.com/

Click on the link on the left hand column for Bonneville Shoreline North, then scroll towards the bottom of the page.

I did this ride about a week and a half ago and it was real nice. A bit crowded though. I"m always looking for people to ride with so if anyone is thinking about heading up some afternoon drop me a PM. Ill bring my bike to work and can be there around 4:30 or so.

For the time being I'm with CS on the whole cross country thing. But eventually I'll start doing my usual Dry Creek/Bobsled route from my house by the U...

2.5 miles of steep-ass climbing? meh, no thanks.

daPig - Josh and I usually hit the Shoreline at least once a week after work. I'll let you know when we're going.

The City Creek section of the Shoreline is really fun. The climb is steep, but the singletrack along the ridge before Terrace Hills is good times. I usually like doing the Dry Creek to City Creek loop to avoid having to climb City Creek.

Well, at least this year I'll know who to be pissed at when I'm riding it after it's dry and the ruts you guys caused have turned into concrete.
"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "Wow, what a Ride!"

    From Utahmountainbiking.com:

    Rode it this morning.
    Was good.
Started at wasatch blvd and rode .5 mile past the gate. too much snow to continue on the road.
started the pipeline just below the gate and rode up to elbow fork. A few spots are still very wet. Lower pipeline was great.

I haven't riden the bobsled since I found out how wet it is.
    My sincerest apology

the Davis County section of the shorline on the other hand is dry except for the few stream crossings. I've been riding that boring ass trail.

Little Cottonwood Quarry Trail is good to go all the way up. If this rain holds off, I'm gonna explore Mill Creek Pipeline this afternoon and report back.
