    Atomic Nano Technology

if anyone can shed some light to the make up and formation of the "nanoframe" that is in the new izor skis. im doing a research project about it and information is hard to come by. if anyone has any info that would be awesome or a link to information.

i know the shit is a joke but it's for a material technology class. the product must be "new and innovative" i don't care about the skis as much as the way the "nano technology" helps the ski.

you would need to talk to the epic ski bears i doubt any one here rides izors or metrons.

You probably wont find any info on this stuff as it is most likely a big lie. Email atomic though.

I read something in Popular Mechanics about carbon carbon materials. I think it is newer technology, and may be more interesting.

because nano-technology sounds cool in marketing.

There are papers out their on the "technology"

the nanoframe is just a carbon fiber weave with silicon oxide to fill the vacancies between the carbon molecules, ect. simple idea. simple design. simple marketing. tough as shit to write a 10 page paper.

It's actually not a joke, the technology is quite innovative and will be awesome once they put it into higher end skis, which will be happening soon.

i should have said it's a joke how it's being marketed to now. it's still in R&D and once it reachs the GS/SL/Pimp line, then it will be amazing how predictable/responsive the ski will be.

silicon oxide filling the void in the weave/fibre, that's the answer. The ski does what it's supposed to and does it well. Is that because of a new technology with a nifty name? Apparently it's not hurting.

Basically, it just adds toughness to the fiber layup, versus a pure epoxy or resin matrix. They're using it the same way Easton does for their CNT line of bike components. It's not the highest tech type of nano material, nor the highest tech use of nano materials, but I guess it still counts as "nano" (at least as much as a new iPod does).

Increased toughness means you can build a product with a lower safety factor, or without as much of a protective layer. In terms of what that will do for skis? I have no fuckin' idea, other than making a lighter ski. That's seriously the only fuctional improvement I can think of, and even then it's only an improvement is they can maintain some material dampness to make up for the loss of inertia in high speed performance.

wilson's new racquets use the same "nano technology"
    sorry for the tennis post

EDIT: wilson + atomic owned by the same company, just remembered
    No longer stuck.

That was actually one or the main intents of the line in general. It is a major hurdle for less experienced skiers with the metron line. I believe the silicon oxide also helps with dampening using less of the other features that go into the heavier skis.
