I wasn't joking. I am genuinely optimistic that stem cell research will provide a protocol for repairing damaged spinal cords, and am hopeful that Marc will benefit from this research.

At the heart of the new technique is the UCL teams demonstration in rats that it is possible for severed spinal cord nerve fibres to grow back and restore lost functions. In practice they say this could mean:
"that spinal cord patients will eventually be able to regain much of the ability to move that they have lost. For paraplegic patients this could lead to a return of sensation and movement to some leg muscles, potentially allowing them to stand and making movement easier, while tetraplegics (patients with spinal injury high in the neck region), could recover touch sensation and movement of the hands, and regain the ability to dress, feed and clean independently."
Thanks for your PM, too, Eric Dorsey.

Very sad. Great skier who really stepped it up and gave us some great moments. Good luck and keep moving forward.

Very sad. I hope the difficult times for the skiing community will be remembered in next year's films.

Our prayers are with you MAB.

Donation sent. I believe like most pro-skiers MAB has a small and limited amount of financial help. Although he is Canadian and has a much better opportunity for medical assistance than his American counterparts, no medical insurance covers the family's financial burden that comes along with taking time off work to assist with rehab and many of the other finincial obliagtions that aren't associated with paying a doctor.

Anyone that has watched in awe MAB's skiing prowess in my opinion is obligated to help a man that suffered a tragic accident trying to push the sport we all love.

Please donate to http://www.standstrongagain.org/ Help marc.

Granted, almost all injuries are 'relative' but pointing that out is not helpful. His injuries are extremely serious and life changing. Don't lose sight of this. This is about Marc.

It's the volume of donations that will make this work, not big amounts. Please help in any small way to make a big difference. Marc is living the personal hell of all of us.

If the fundraising website people are reading this: a paypal account address would be good, as many here are accustomed to using it.

I donated as well. I'd never even heard of that Lars guy before. Heres hoping his road to recovery gets easier too.

Done. Thank you Marc for all of the stoke over the years. Every now and then, when I'm standing at the top of a line, Hang Loose pops in my head...it's then that I smile and drop in.

my heart goes out to marc. it sounds like he is a good man that can work through this. just look what stacey kohut accomplished and is still accomplishing with his life after his accident. he rips way harder than i do. i'd be in for chipping in for a sit ski that he can strap a 190 sumo onto and keep blowin minds.

chin up bro it's not over by a long shot.

Holy shit. I don't know what to say except this is horrible and Marc is probably the most down to earth and nicest of any of the pro skiers I have met in my day so far. That and an amazing skier. If anyone can get through this and still have a smile on his face it's him. I hope for the best for Marc-Andre.
