    Headin to CH and need a little help...

    Need a day trip location (via train from Geneva) for this Sunday. Business calls, but I need a little help with a quick snow fix. Any suggestions are appreciated from the Euro mags.

    Lightbulb

    You can get a day trip from Gare Routiere, a couple blocks south of Gare Cornavin in downtown GVA

    Take your pick from Grand Montets, Les Contamines and Le Flaine for around 50-60 Sfr.

    Railway to Martigny, from there cab/shuttle to Verbier or directly by car.
    Car drive up to Torgon, Val d'Illez or Morzine (Port du Solei), else gang up with TeleAl for Leysin (1 hr drive each).

    That's a pretty broad question... I could name around 30 ski resorts a train ride from Geneva. Check a map and timetables are at www.sbb.ch is my advice.

    verbier is a good option, since you go by train to martigny, then by train to le chable, then there's a lift to verb at the train station. PM me for any more details

    Normally a good thought, but skip Leysin and Port du Soleil and go higher.
    From Geneva I suggest the following:

    Geneva-Aigle-Les Diablerets-Col du Pillon==>ski Glacier 3000 Les Diablerets & La Combe d'Audon.
    (this might be a pain in the ass by public transport, and make sure La Combe is open.)

    A more certain option would be (as stated above)
    Geneva-Martigny-Le Chable==>ski Verbier.
    (Sunday in Verbier might have a few people, but Verb is impressive terrain.)

    I am not sure where I will be, but probably G3000.

    doubtful. rain/snow at altitude forecast for sunday.

    geo - given the current weather forecast, there are not many good options. low resorts (with trees) will see rain, higher resorts will be closed or whiteout. hard to say where will be best until we see how the forecast pans out. usually it's an early morning last minute decision.

    BTW, Lostinthetrees lives in Geneva. Perhaps PM him for a ride?

    Thanks for the FYI. I am heading this weekend but may need to bag the trip...we will see. I am actually lucky enough to have my company move me to CH in September, so I will probably be posting a ton to get info. I already saved a bunch of data on some of the posts especially the one on "little places that rock". I will also keep this post, seems like the train routing is interesting to say the least.

    Thanks again, G

    No ride from me. I no ski Sunday...working this wkend and agree about forecast. Rain up to 2000m turns to snow on Monday. Tuesday looking like a Spring pow day for me. Checked multiple sources.

    Follow Superstar's advice. Quickest fix is to take the Geneve shuttle to Chamoix. If you no ski, just wander and take bus up to Argentiere to visit.

    Coming back in Sept.? Happy to ride share. Get peep, shovel and probe. Minimal off-piste equipment over here. Buy them in states, cheaper. We are using bca trackers, but anything is better than nothing.
    when not on the snow what else do i do...

    hey gang

    plans changing, may be in similar boat

    shouting out now in case someone is around

    in zermatt now, leaving tomorrow, time to kill before tue am flight out of geneva

    not really enough time to get down to meet back up with Foggy as hoped in La Grave, but conditions not looking great here as stuff is cooked for now and storm is moving in sometime tomorrow pm...

    so, probably will head to geneva tomorrow am, then would have Monday to do a day trip, so am back in geneva by night, to make tue AM flight to states...

    unless you recommend zermatt->verbier for tomorrow, ski verb monday, then to geneva monday night, instead of zermatt to geneva, then geneva back to ??? for a day trip...

    Or just bag the monday ski based on likely conditions?

    Thoughts?

    Zermatt now, Geneva Monday evening, what to do in the meantime? Not as mobile as I otherwise would be, am bringing dad's ski stuff back to states for him, as he is headed to Spain...

    Things are not looking lovely for Sun/Mon... general prediction is a high snow level that will mean rain in the forests and fog on the high, open, treeless slopes.

    Stop by the castle at Montreux on your way to Gevena, and/or get on the TGV to Paris for proper tourizing?
