Whenever I hung out with Doug, skiing or climbing or just shooting the shit in his basement piled with clothes, backpacks, ropes, and climbing gear, he always struck me as the ultimate big brother. He knew things you didn't, but he was always willing to teach you. He wanted you to excel, and you did. With Doug, you skied better, you climbed better, and you laughed the whole time, just like he did. As fellow Exum guide Nat Patridge said last night, "The world was bigger when you were with Doug."
When Doug and Emily had David, I thought that this was the luckiest little kid alive, to have a father like that.
That's why we set up the Doug Coombs Memorial Fund, so David will always know how much we respected his dad. You can find all necessary info about it at dougcoombsmemorialfund.com. A few bucks from every skier touched by the Doug Coombs legend, and we could put the boy through college. Or alternatively, make sure he has season passes for life.
Thanks for your help.
