    Alf's Restaurant on Alta

Have any of you worked and lived there for a season? If so, what's it like?

I know the housing is dorm style and that it's probably not the best conditions but I think I can live with that. I'm more interested in ski time and what do you do for fun after the mountain is closed (considering it's half way up the mountain)?

lived in Alta for 2 years

never lived up there (alfs) but most of the kids seems pretty chill.
You usually go crazy ( nuts) about 3/4 of the way through the season.

full moon hikes, funneling whiskey, mucho mota, and shredding tons of pow seem to be the extra-curricular activites.

If you can deal with insignifgant bullshit (the token crack-smoker*) you will have a blast.

    * some day I will post a riveting story about crystal Keith.

I lived and worked up there for a couple of seasons and loved it. As far as ski time goes it's pretty hard to beat- typically at least 2-4 hours of ski time each day, plus two full days off per week. The exact times of your shifts rotate each day, but except for maybe one or two days each week you can be out the door for first chair and don't have to be in until lunchtime.

Not sure what you mean by "probably not the best conditions," but the housing there is better than a lot of the other options at Alta. My first year it was a bit crowded (six to a room), but then they put in a couple of new rooms and I think now it's doubles or triples for all.

pointedem pretty much summed up the extracurriculars, along with lots of ski movie viewing. it can feel a little isolated up there, especially by this time of year, but if you are stoked to ski as much as possible it is a great setup. If you are looking for a good party scene or need to be entertained, look elsewhere (then again, you probably wouldn't be looking at Alta if that was the case)....PM me if you want more info....

I lived at alfs from november to mid february last season. The dorms are not bad, much nicer than the dorms i lived in at Crystal this year. You also get all the free food you could ever want and you do get a ton of time to ski. If Sean is still running the place i would advise you to sorta kiss his ass a little if you wanna stay on his good side, I didnt and consequently got canned in february. All in all it was a good experience and i became a MUCH better skier, if you end up goin up there tell them danimal says hi.

Why did you get "canned"? Do employees get laid off a lot?

Of all the places to work/live in Alta, I think Alf's would suck the most.

Alfs is pretty cool man, i worked there the past 2 winters but am over it. U go pretty nutty by the end but get to ski a lot. Id see if spence spotts is working there next yr, the asst manager, if he isnt which he most likely wont, then it will be cool, hes such a dick, but honestly its def worth trying for a year, worst case u bail and work at the GMD or somewhere else. I wouldnt take back those 2 yrs of my life thats for sure...........whats up Danimal, when u setting the world record, go seahawks

Sean does still run the place. I talked to him on the phone yesterday about a job starting in mid-December. He said they hire everyone for opening day in November but keep a list of people to hire when the inevitable happens (injry/fired/quit).
