Stratton Close to Done for the Season (TR)

After finally getting around to using my freebie lift ticket, it's good I didn't wait much longer. The rain from Saturday night took the open trails from 47 to 20. Lots of semi-boilerplate which got shaved off as the day went on and turned into some small slush bumps.Still fun but lots of mud patches as the day went on. The general consensus was that next Sunday should be the last day and they are planning on holding a pond skimming event there that day.

I'm sure it's pretty much the same story at Mt. Snow, nevertheless I'll be there for one more day on Wednesday. Was there last week and the big park was actually a lot of fun--soft snow, I finally sacked up to hit the big step down and gapper, managed to scare myself a bit which was fun.
Carinthia (big) parks closed today, I'm sure they'll be basically done after next weekend.
Curious about how Kmart is holding out--will they make May 1?

It will be interesting to see how K-mart does. Southern VT is pretty much done based on what I skied Sunday. Morning was icy and fast and turned into slush, mud and soft bumps as the day went on. Still nice to get out and ski for a change instead of working on my place.

Sprite what's the 411 on Killington or did you stay in Stamford last weekend?

I will also remember not the wear any Weather Channel apparel so I don't have mothers of childern getting degrees in meteorology how to get a job.

On friday there was still a pretty decent amount of snow at Killington. Only problem was with it being 68 (with no noticable temperature change at elevation) the snow was too soft. Too soft because the entire top layer got pushed off quickly, leaving the icy layer underneath exposed. Not sure how it did after the rain on saturday.

Sunday River was very good on sunday.

Both places had excellent coverage in that the snow was evenly distributed, leaving very few exposed sections. That coverage is pretty thin though, so it's going to go all at once.

nicely, way to get out there and get some classic VT spring skiing.

Incedentally, I heard this dude saying that at Killington, they had like 4 feet of blower pow in the woods if you know where to look. But only at Killington. And only if you know where to look.

I hope to god that I can still ski this weekend. after originally having grand plans to get out West and ski closing day of the tram at J-Hole, I wound up sitting on my ass for two days with a cold and a pulled hamstring. Not such a sweet turn of events.

Shmerham- will you be going out this upcoming weekend??

Quite Possibly. Would like to make it to Reggaefest. You interested? ...I haven't gotten a place, but I'm looking into it and trying to get some people to fill it. Otherwise, a Tuck's trip may be in order.

Stratton was allright on friday, definitely some mud and water patches though. Lots of people skiing in shorts. I didn't realize that they got rain on saturday; I can imagine that things are pretty thin these days!

    Kmart beta.

BMMC rocked Sat, but was a slogfest with the rain. Poached my last Fiddle run of the season, it probably won't be doable next weekend. Tried a woods run, they're done for the season too. OL and Bear Trap still had pretty good cover considering the summer weather they had earlier in the weeki. Bear will still be open next weekend for the Spring Loaded Pipe Jam thing, but will close after that. Rams and Bloodshed closed for the season today. SS has considerably less snow on it than it usually does at this time, so making it to May 1st is going to be tough this year without the help from Ma Nature. Snowdon runs are pretty cooked too and the Canyons runout is almost gone.

All the rain on Sat turned to boilerplate on Sunday. Along with the alcohol induced haze from Sat, I decided to bag it early. I think Sprite skied on Sunday, but I heard it was pretty craptacular. The cool down with potential for a heavy snow may save us for a while this week, we shall see.

Bottom line, the mtn looks like it's May1st, not April 3rd....
