Thinking of getting a video camera this summer, I've been using a friends for a while just getting some rough footage when I can. The video I'm using has a shit viewfinder and the LCD is clearly of no use in sunshine.

Any maggots tried making a hood or a head gown from darkroom cloth (or similar). I guess you could easily have the lens outside of the hood and then get much better visibilty under the cloth... is it worth it?

Don't monkey with the LCD viewer, use the viewfinder to frame your footage. LCD screens are not meant for outside framing/composition. The only time I use them is indoors, when framing interviews, etc. Even then, I use an external monitor.
