    Bike porn observations (movie related)

Just got a hold of quite a few bike vids; The Collective, NWD 5+6. So I am completely porned out of my head here the last few days.

    Observations:

Holy crap these guys are sicktarded, huge isn't even the word for it, more like ginormic!! Completely blown away with the progression, throwing 3's off cliffs.

I love urban trials, nose wheelies and manuals are the coolest, my favorite segments for sure (aron chase is a maniac) IMHO it is much more impressive than the big hucks.

The soundtrack to NWD 5 is probably one of the best soundtracks ever, using songs i am not familar with, vs NWD 6, which is super old school, but i liked the rock n'roll feel.

Never come up short on a gap jump.

These guys have flow that i can't even fathom, I am so jealous of their style you can't comprehend. I do imagine it might take just as many takes or more to nail a trick line on a bike vs skis.

Seriously how do these guys sit and pedal with balls that big?

The Collective was a soulful flick with fantastic cinematography, but somehow i was expecting more. I might need to see it again, still a great flick, i am brand new to bike porn movies so forgive me if i spit on the holy grail.

What is the name of those neon yellow rims that 75% of everyone ride on? I even think one of my buddies has one of those rims, must be bullet proof shit.

Thank god my bike is in getting worked on right now, or i would be in the street hurting myself even more than i already am. I need to heal up and hit the trails hard this season. That shit got me way pumped.

So what else in recent year do i need to see?

if you like urban trials stuff in those movies, you should check out some bmx vids, imvho makes a lot of that "mtb street" stuff look like a joke

I like watching mtb vids for actual trails and big lines, but bmx dominates the technical stuff

    Another observation:
rocks are harder than snow. These guys must go through some serious carnage when they wreck.

possibly the worst crash i have ever seen is in NWD 5 (i think) looks like North shore stuff, guy comes off a big hit gap in the woods to a nice transition, but is going a little too fast and can't make the corner and just runs flat out into a tree. I had to watch it 3 times, he later cleans it.

These are a bit race-y, but its cool to see another aspect of big bike riding....really, really fast big bike riding....check out Earthed 1-3, Synopsis and Hypnosis. Fastest riders in the world doing their thing, awesome soundtracks and great camera work and editing. Pretty much race type riding and a fair bit of dirt jumping.

The Disorder movies are MSP, and have that vibe...the Earthed movies are more like an Ostness movie in their composition.....Hypnosis and Synopsis are heavily influenced by Earthed/Alex Rankin.

cool/funny in an old school way, but I was thinking something more along the lines of this:

    http://www.bmxonline.com/bmx/video/i...5_78_1,00.html

crazy technicality made to look so easy

disclaimer: not hating on mtb at all, I am definitely a mountainbiker, don't even own a bmx. Just saying that mtb street is just scratching the surface of that type of riding at this point.

Ryan Leech is definitely doing something different though, you won't see any brakeless bmxers doing that stuff

ryan leech floats......... I don't know what else to say, but I live out at ubc, so I have had the priviledge of riding around campus with him for a few solid hours over the years, and my jaw is usually dragging on the ground the whole time

Collective is the sweetest bike movie out there.
I don't consider it to be in the rock and roll bike porn category like the NWD videos. The both have their place, but you can't even compare the two types of videos IMO

MTB street like aaron chase and jeff "lenovski" are crazy sweet, but you don't have to watch even 1 minute of a bmx vid to see how far behind they are in that area. Not to take anything away from their riding at all. I mean they blow my mind, but the little nose taps, and rail slides just don't measure up to the bmx punk show

I have yet to see earthed, but I would love to, because the dh sections in alot of the other recent movies have been completely mind blowing. those dhers are in another category of the mentally insane.
