Can I copy a dvd to my hard drive?

I have a trip coming up , I would like to copy a couple of movies to a file so I can watch them on the road. Is there a way to do this? I tried a direct copy to a file , the movie transfered, when I click on properties, the file is the same size as the movie but I can't get it to run. Thanks.

why don't you just bring the dvds with you? anyways, to answer your question, download a program called dvd shrink, click open disc, click backup, choose a folder, and it will make a bunch of files. opening VIDEO_TS.IFO in your dvd playing software or media player will play the dvd.

I make .avi (MPEG4) files of movies and TV shows if I want to watch them on the computer. The quality isn't bad at all.

Second the DVD decrypter. I then use AutoGK to encode. Haven't reasearched it much lately but this seems to be a highly recommended setup.

Another one to check out is DVDFab Decrypter.

The original DVD decrypter author stopped updating the program. This one is still updated regularly once a new copy protection scheme is found.

Depending on the format you rip the DVD's into, you might need to download codecs to play them. Just search Cole Media on download.com and download the Cole2k media pack.
