23 yr old cask strength macallan

This single cask of barrel strength Macallan 23 represents our biggest coup yet in the post-Brexit Scotch era. We're living in whisky world where Macallan 25 now costs $1700 per bottle. If the distillery even offered a cask strength edition of that expression it would easily be over $2000. Yet somehow, someway, we've managed to secure a single barrel of 23 year old Macallan at full proof for a shocking $299. One of the main differences you'll find in the Old Particular offering is the lack of sherry influence, which would normally be the calling card of the distillery version. Rather than toffee and cakebread, this single hogshead cask highlights the finesse and fruitiness of the Highland legend. With ample vanilla, dried apricot, oak spice, and plenty of sweet malted barley on the finish, the flavors are dialed up at 110.2 proof, so a bit of water is recommended. Macallan is one of the most graceful and effortless whiskies in the world, qualities that have cemented its status as the elite Scottish single malt distillery. We have to imagine this will be the last time we're able to offer a whisky of this status at this price. Having just gone back to find more this past month, prices were upward of $800 per bottle for casks of the same maturity.

I was at a Whisky Bar earlier tonight and ordered a Glenfiddich single malt 18 year old scotch. It was a decent scotch with some sweet notes and a hint of peat, but I can't say there was a lot of character. We also tried three bourbons and with Jefferson's 21 year being the best bourbon.

I was visiting family for Father's Day yesterday and tried a few different single malt scotches. One was Kirkland's 16 year, the next was Glenlivet 12 and last was Glen Deveron 16. The Glen Deveron was definitely the best as the finish damn good. Too bad it is only available though the traveling market. for $48 the Kirkland's 16 year is a good value.

May have to try that. Been on a bourbon cocktail and vodka dirty martini kick for a while.

On topic, got a bottle of Lagavulin 1999 distillers edition for an engagement present. It is extremely smooth and flavorful. Quite peaty but not as peaty as the regular 16.

Probably been mentioned before but Pint's Pub in Denver has what is claimed to be the largest selection of single malt scotch outside of Great Britain. I would encourage any scotch enthusiast to pay them a visit.

Picked up a bottle Talisker Storm from the Isle of Skye at Costco this afternoon after the gym. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it as some of the NAS scotches I've tried in the past have very different tastes, but for $36.99 I figured it wasn't a huge gamble. After dinner I opened the bottle had a taste. My first thought was that I had already tried it but couldn't remember where. Turns out I had this at my sister's a couple Christmases ago. As the scotch hit my palate it seems fairly youthful with fruitiness, but then as it was going down it the flavor developed plenty of character. The light smokiness came through and the prickliness on my tongue and lips lasted through the finish. I've got to say that for a NAS this was fine single malt and well worth the $36.99.

I gotta say the Japanese make very average beer comparatively, but F'me do they know how to make some good single malt. Yamazaki 18 is the best bottle in the world. It's younger brother, Yamazaki 12, is not half the man, but albeit a good bottle in its own right. Hibiki 21 and 17 are also phenomenal bottles. I highly recommend getting your hands on them if you can. Especially that Yamazaki 18. Worldwide it's sold out, so if you see it, grab it. Those are my favorite bottles here.

Another bottle that I have loved is Ardbeg's Supernova. Liquidfuckinggold that bottle is. If you can find it, get it. Best bottle of Ardbeg. Ever.

When I was married to an Englishwoman I used to visit a liquor store in St. Ives that had the most amazing Scotch selection I've ever seen. In addition to all the full sized bottles, they had a huge selection of G&M and other independent miniatures. That's the only place I've ever seen minis from them. It was great for tasting afternoons.

I picked up a bottle of Glen Moray 16 year single malt on the way home from dinner tonight. For $47 it is damn good. It is an easy drinking Speyside scotch and quite smooth.

Now that looks good. I'm currently drinking a small pour of Glenfiddich select cask. I wanted to do a taste comparison with the two most recent scotches I purchased, but since they are both pretty damn good I figured I'll wait for another time as I have to get up early for a full morning of martial arts.

I picked up a bottle of The Dalmore 12 for a family get together over Thanksgiving. It was well received. I thought it had plenty of flavor and a good finish. Tonight I picked up a bottle of Kirkland 18 yr Speyside single malt for$54. I bought my father a bottle of Kirkland 16 yr last year and thought is was pretty good for under $49.
