    Reading Reco's

Running a little spare on reading material here, and thought the mags may have some reco's for me.

Fave types: Distorted reality fiction (vonnegut, palahniuk) or entertaining fiction (tom robbins), cyberpunk, classics etc.

Pretty much I like anything that's inventive and interesting. Nonfiction generally bores me. Currently burning through the iliad (never read it, strangely), and gilgamesh, but those'll probably be finished tomorrow so...

    neal stevenson

Interface by Neal Stevenson is a fun read if you haven't read it. He's a "post-cyberpunk" author. Really any of his books are good. Snow Crash, Diamond Age, Zodiac, etc.

If you like Robbins give Carl Hiaasen a whirl. "Sick Puppy" is one of my favorites.

er, Neal Stephenson, but nothing post Cryptonomicon when he stopped having editors (i.e. run from the baroque cycle)

Also check out Phillip K Dick (anything), and tipps hiassen rec is worth it.

Stephenson and Gibson are already pretty much all read. I agree on the baroque cycle, burned through 2 so far, not sure if I want to finish... Thanks, I'll check that stuff out.

Then there's the new(ish) genre of Steam Punk. Check out China Mieville's "Perdido Street Station" or "The Scar."

Late to the game here, but check out Frequencies by Joshua Ortega. Pretty entertaining read in the cyberpunk/dystopia genre.
Now I gotta go check out some of these other recos.

I'll second this one, Hiaasen is one of the only authors to make me frequently laugh out loud. I sometimes get weird looks from people....

Phillip K. Dick is generally very very good. Also, pretty much any of Douglas Adams' books should fit your bill. And then don't forget the M103 of books: Money by Martin Amis.
