No good snow. Not from there but I know that.
People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

I turned down a job in Dublin. But I hear that place is rocking these days. Alot of companies have headquartered their european offices there for the tax breaks.

I hear the golf and the drinking is world class.

I have some relatives in Cork, i need to freeload on them for a while one day.

Dont know. I have an eu passport as well as american. I imagine if you have a job lined up that would help. They have been very progresive with their tax laws to attract foreign companies, i imagine their temporary work visas have only gotten easier to obtain as well.

us passport only but that shouldn't make a difference. The wealth of info on the web is considerable, however calling the local irish embassy proved to be a challenge, to say the least. I may have to pay them a visit and try to get the work permit rolling. Thankfully there's one Boston, down the street.

Everyone i speak to that has any sort of idea says it should be a piece of cake to get the permit. Everything on the web says otherwise. If i have a company step to the plate than it'll be much more assured, i would think. Going at it alone i'm not so sure.

    Blatant,

If you have any luck, would you mind passing along the info? I'm about to graduate from college and I was thinking that I'd like to go there and work for a little while, but I don't know if I'll be able to find a company to sponsor me. Let me know what you find out.
Yep, seen this before. Crazy liquor & cheeseburger party got out of control.

essentially how difficult it is to secure a work permit. I haven't had time to go to the consulate/embassy here in boston but have phoned them and the lady i've spoken to is a real biznatch....therefore not sure what to expect whence i wander in there, inquiring.

For example, can i simply get a work permit or do i need to be sponsored by an irish company?

I'm afraid that you will need to get a work permit first. To do this you need to be sponsered by a company.

This website should give you some more information -
    http://oasis.gov.ie/employment/worki...k_permits.html

One of the biggest job-sites in Ireland is www.monster.ie - you might get lucky and get through that. It may be easier to get a job in the States with a US company that are willing to relocate you.

Another possibility is that if you have a grandparent that was born in Ireland you are entitled to an Irish passport. They will give you a passport no questions asked and then you are sorted for anyplace in the EU. You don't even have to give up your US passport !!! I think this same rule may apply to Portugal also (but not sure on this).
