Nerd Question...Help with Online Photo Gallery

I'm working on a website to document my travels. I'm using Dreamweaver MX 2004 and I'm trying to design a decent photo gallery. I am willing to use thumbnails, but not like any old lame thumbnail photo gallery made in HTML. I've looked into some using PHP and Flash, but I have no experience with those.

My preference is to have something like a flash gallery (or at least the appearence of one) with thumbnails that can be clicked to bring up a larger picture that has a description anywhere from a few words to a paragraph or more. Dreamweaver allows for a photo gallery option, but leaves no room more than a few words description.

I'm just wondering if any of you know of some tuturials or have a decent photo gallery that you are happy with. Thank you.

I suggest using Flickr, rather than rolling your own. Less fuss, less muss - and it looks awesome too.

That is probably the best free php gallery software out there. It leaves plenty of room for descriptions, and has the option to allow viewers to comment on your pictures

I have a PHP script that I wrote you can use.

It's easy to use, simply put it in the directory, it will automatically create thumbnails (the directory must be CHMODed to 777 otherwise the script doesn't have appropriate permission).

You can find it here: http://www.vanillawinter.com/thumbnail.txt

Rename it to .php and put it in the directory with photos.

A sample of what it looks like when you use it can be seen here:

I've used it for about five years now with no problems. I've done about 5 sites with it. At work I have over 300 users all with special permissions and 6200 images and video.

www.baconzoo.com/library is my snow pimp site.

I second this. I've used it in various versions for a few years now.
