Any dry trails at all in the Bay Area now?

Been raining cats and dogs all day in SF and the Coast. Trying my damndest to get a ride in tomorrow. Anyone been getting any riding in? Any dry or at least dry enough trails right now?

I went running a couple days ago in Briones(benchmark trail), it was pretty sloppy and un-rideable still. Not sure how far a drive for you, but i was in Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland and rode Cinderella trail, to some other long named trail. It was wet, but tacky and nearly perfect. You'd probably want to shuttle, the ride up is kinda brutal for the short ride down. Also Rockville Park in Fairfield drains easily and stays pretty dry. Hope that helps!

Shuttle Cinderella? WTF? That's like 450 vertical feet...just lap it, you cupcake! Plus it's a long way to any parking from the bottom, and I guarantee lapping will be faster than trying to come up with a shuttle.

(I also guarantee it will be unridable after today's rain.)

Agreed that Cinderella is too short to shuttle, but we connected to some other trail...Via Los Colorados, something like that...it took us basically to the frontage street by Highway 13.

I share your situation right now, sitting in my house in the foothills as we get pounded with heavy rain. Must Ride Today. When I lived in the south bay area, and was iching to ride when it was really wet out, I usually stuck to long drawn out fire road climbing rides... Woods trail + Kennedy + Priest Rock area near Los Gatos/Almaden comes to mind, or, for a bit of a drive, sticking to the fire roads in Henry Coe (Morgan Hill). Yah, you give up the adrenaline of tight single track, but the trails stay in better shape, and so do you, after logging 4000+ vert on fireroads.

I'm in Starbucks in Tracy (Livermore?) waiting for 10:00 to roll around to find out if the SFO Corral Hollow race is canceled. It rained like crazy all night and seems pretty swampy. Ever since I moved to CA I've been shut down from riding at least once a weekend. I hope we get to ride, but my expectations aren't very high at this point.

    Question

WSD, where do you get your bike serviced? My DIY repairs aren't cutting it and my dodgy repair of the derraileur-through-the-spokes incident left my ride, well, unrideable.

The gnar-mud ended up turning in to happy tacky dirt. The course was fun and fast, but the race was pretty disorganized. I only got a few practice runs in, and felt like I was totally winging it on my race run.
I felt good on my race run, though I know a made a few mistakes. The bike is so fast. I can't wait to get it all dialed.
I'm pretty sure I got 2nd. I was done racing just after 1, and they didn't post anyone's results until 6. It was a mob scene and I had a 6 hour drive ahead of me. It looked like I got 2nd, but everyone was moving around.
Anyway, it was cool to get my first expert race out of the way and get some of the early-season kinks out. Next week, Sea Otter!

SUPU, Bike-RX in Mill Valley is great, I know the owner, Scott. Master mechanic, fair prices, great service, yadda yadda yadda...

If you want to stay in the city, that's a tougher call. I used to take my stuff to Mike's

Pu - Chris and Matt at Half Moon Bay Bike Works. They're great, well priced, and they themselves ride the exact same stuff you and I do all the time.

If you want, I can swing by your place on my way home and pick up your bike and drop it off there sometime. They'll give you the friend of WSD good treatment too (for whatever that's worth!).

And I can't wait till daylight savings!!!!!!!

Are the prices listed on biker-rx.com typical in your area? They seem very different than what we have.

Our basic tune up is only 49.99 and includes wheel truing. At the same time, we would probably charge closer to 25 for a full cable and housing replacement?

to be honest, i am not really sure. i haven't paid "retail" for anything bike related (bikes, parts, gear, tune-ups, etc) in over a decade....

If anyone is still looking for a good shop in SF...check out Vision Cycles on Stanyan. That was my spot when I lived in the city. Charlie (owner) is a good guy an a great mechanic.

Just wanted to let you know that that bottom part you rode is quote illegal unquote wink wink.

Watch yo'self when you're in JM--lotsa huffy holier-than-thou ex-granola people walking around there and Redwood, just dying for a reason to bitch to EBMUD about riders. The place is kinda on probation last I heard, so if you're gonna poach, pick a good quiet time to ride the lower section.

And f#ck, dude, have the decency to haul your fat ass up the hill after you're done with her. Sheesh.

    Peace,
    Shawn

has anyone at all ventured into Skeggs lately?

I really don't mind rain, but I'm sort of over it at this point.

Vision is a great shop, especially for DH/freeride. But I heard a rumor they closed, which would suck.

Rumour is true. Shop has closed.

Ray, his head wrench, went to City Cycles at Steiner & Union.

Ray is also a great mechanic. He has the touch.

Rockville is the best place to ride near the bay in the wet.

Oat hill rocks (literally) as well.
