Well fuck, I don't know what to do and I could use your 2 cents.
Is it about time to let Gunther go. The guy has lost his mind. I take him out, he pees, comes back in and takes a big shit. This has happened three times in the last week now and has happened 5 times in the last two weeks. I love him, but WTFWMD?
He still eats and drinks water well. Has a hard time getting up, but can do it (unlike Maya at the end).
I just don't know what to do about his new shitting in the house habit. It is making me very grumpy, which sucks, cuz I love the old guy.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Aw man, that’s awful L2S. Towards the end with my 17 y/o BC it went like that for a month or so. I was ok picking up turds because he could still hold a squat to do so. When he started collapsing under his own weight I knew he was in pain and it was time to make some calls.

Make him comfortable, that’s all you can do. You’ll know and he’ll know when it’s time.

    Peace.

We've had to reduce the amount of the house Milo has access to. And buy a lot of training pads. The two "Doggy jail" areas are wall to wall pads. Hopefully once he's off the prednisone things will get better.

How do I let my best friend go around the holidays? I guess as riser suggested, I will need to keep him locked off in certain parts of the house, but never having done that, at bedtime he will be so bummed that he can not sleep with us...
    FUCK!!!!

l2ski - my suggestion ( and it is only a suggestion ) is either wait him out, so he poops outside, Or if this is a delayed poop, modify his feeding schedule ( incrementally over a week ) so you can take him back out to poop -
it's all about Patience and timing...

    It's just a dog.

Man Rocky was supposed to have knee surgery this week. He had surgery four years ago to correct a luxating patella and started limping on it recently. Then him and his brother dog ran into each other and he hurt it worse. Diagnosis was a torn cruciate ligament, acl, and the patella was luxating again due to the instability. [emoji639] week wait to get him into surgery. His leg started swelling and got worse and worse, we and the vet thought it was just swelling from his injuries. When the surgeon saw him Tuesday he was like oh, “I can’t operate and something else is going on. He likely has a big abscess that we have to drain.” Cytology came back and they think it is very fast growing cancer. Literally went from nothing (he had an X-ray [emoji639] weeks ago) to a huge mass today. Assuming it’s cancer we are hoping they can amputate the leg and stop it but the prospects don’t look good with it growing this fast.

He’s only six and such a good dog. Every night he goes into my [emoji639] year olds room to lay with him while he goes to bed. He’s so well behaved, affectionate, and smart. His eye contact is crazy, people always comment at how he looks at them like he’s looking into their soul. My wife and I are heartbroken. Our first puppy after getting married died of a tick born illness weeks after we got him. Now I’m afraid we are going to lose Rocky. Also afraid of just spending stupid money to chase unrealistic hope.

very sorry to see this neufox-
Good luck with the possibility of amputation ( you might want to ask your surgeon about survival rates ( or do some independent research ))

    Good luck.

Bedtime is the worst. He wants to sleep with my 22yo. But since that kid works nights 3x per week, the dog got used to sleeping on our floor since he has never been allowed in our bed as ours was always to tall for the little guy. We have an enclosure at the foot of our bed with his bed in it. Fortunately there's a motion activated nightlight so I have only stubbed my toes occasionally.

I ordered a 2nd gate from Amazon. It will be here Sunday. He can access about a third of the house in the evening, just not back by the bedrooms. I will toss him out side when I wake up in the morning and if I see he did his business, he can come inside and go where he wants. This is a morning dump issue so far.

Go take an outside dump with him and show him how it's done! Also, assert dominance.

The poor guy, in the old days, there were 2 dog doors for him to use for that 5am dump, but when Misty got hit by a car we closed the dog doors down and I take him out 12+ times a day now. The fucker won't get up at 5am when I offer to take him out but 45 minutes later, there it is. Such a PITA.

Vet prepared us that it looks like hemangiosarcoma, which is a really bad and aggressive cancer. Won’t know until Monday / Tuesday.

Snapped this pic of my pointers after a foggy chukar hunt. They make look miserable but there is absolutely nothing they’d rather be doing. I often wish I could take all my non hunting friends on just one hunt so that they could appreciate both the joy of the dogs and their incredible innate abilities. Dogs rule.

Cheers to all the "best boys and girls" out there and up there tonight. You know who you are. And to all you Mags who gave them the best years and best lives - they'll be waiting for you...

Thoughts are with ya neufox. Unfortunately angiosarcs are not uncommon in canines. Hugs and treats for Rocky.

And liv2ski, vibes to you and Gunther as well. Our last passed so quickly at a relatively young age our only consolation was that we didn't have to see him get old, but we've been through that as well with our prior pup. It sucks either way.

neufox47, there are a bunch of tri pods in town. If the Dr can stop the cancer, I would remove the leg, as he is a young guy, but if the cancer is really aggressive, I would keep him comfortable as long as possible. I always keep my pups around to long, as they don't show the pain to us until it is crippling.
Do what the Dr. recommends and hope for the best is all I have.
