We just said goodbye to Winston this afternoon, a few days short of 13.5 years old.
Beloved big brother, first born “child”, hiking buddy, house protector, dress-up victim, and all around goofball. He was a very good boy.

I hate this thread - especially because my older dog is so close to the end - but Winston warms my heart. He lived a charmed life. Just look at that grin! Enjoy doggie heaven little guy. You've earned it.

Ughhh. Knew it was coming and had talked to the wife. Tonight the 15yr old husky lost his hips and showed that it's time.

I know some people will disagree but we feel that a husky who has spent his life chasing grizzly bears and generally being a Montana badass deserves a certain send off.

As hard as it is I think I'm taking the old man out in the woods next weekend.

    Fuck this hurts...

Hey lls I am so sorry for you and your pup

Don't come to this thread often since it makes me so sad, but my heart goes out to all of you mags, and I know it'll be my turn eventually.

15 years chasing grizzlies is a good life. You did right by him.

    It's just a dog.

I never met your husky, but I did go camping/fishing with you and your lab Walter so I know how much you love your dogs. You gave your husky a great life.

Well I took the old man out for his last trip to the woods. It was one of the hardest things to ive had to do but at the same time it felt right. I got Stormy aka squish from great falls MT on the 4th of July 15 yrs ago. He somehow managed to cheat death from rat poison, getting run over by a car, eating a dozen fishing flies, and chasing more grizzly and black bears than I can count. But time catches up with us all and he let me know it was time. We found a perfect meadow in bumfuck Montana where trees are marked with bear claw scratches and plentiful mousing. He spent 15yrs and countless adventures with me.

    Rest in Peace Stormy.

Sounds like a perfect last hike for him and a reminder of all the good times you guys shared.

RIP Stormy, hope you finally catch those bears!

Thanks mags. As Bmills said, I hate this thread.

However as stupid as it sounds, I find the support here is pretty awesome.

Harry‐ appreciate the words. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love my dogs. Hope to hook up for some musky(ie) fishing in your parts or trout weenie shit round here.

Wally, 14, is currently in surgery. I came home just after 1pm and he couldn't stand up. Tumor on his spleen ruptured and it's a good thing I don't have some stupid 8 to 5 or he would have bled out on the floor.
Unknown yet if malignant or what else. I wish there was a bar near this vet's office.
    No longer stuck.
