As in so many other aspects of Life:

    Know when to say when.

Not many harder decisions we have to make in our lives, but when we began the journey with them we obligated ourselves to the decision.

    Peace to all.

It’s never easy, that’s why it hurts so damn much.

    It's just a dog.

Thanks everyone. I spent the last 10 days by his side and my kids were here over the weekend. I knew in my head I’d do it today but he all but quit as soon as my kids left last night. But miraculously, he got up and took one last walk with me, further than he’d gone all week, and wanted to go further. He then sat on the porch until I carried him inside. If you’re in tune with your dog like I was, you will know. Not too soon, not too long.

We traveled everywhere together, even to Chile. In the back of my truck from California to Key West. I said this before, but he really rescued me.

I’m not much for religion, but I asked for strength today and I received it. I also made a promise in return for that, and in return for the 13 yrs I was blessed with Kip, I’d make good with my life.

And even at the end they can make us better people, such is the power of a dog. RIP Kip
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Godspeed Kip and condolences Cono. I understand completely.

    Stay true to your word.

It is tough PW7, sorry for your loses guys. I am uncertain how you guys can go a year without a new friend. For me, there is no way.

    Yeah, feel the same.
At 16, we knew that Jessie's days were numbered, so a new puppy was introduced into the household.
Sort of therapy dog self medication if you will. While it didn't make her passing any easier or less sad, it sure helped on the back side. I am thankful that they overlapped, would do it again, but boy, having what amounts to two puppies at the same time requires a lot of effort and a stunning lack of sleep.

The thought has already crossed my mind. It’s insane to think what life would have been like the last 11 yrs without KIP. I’ve been waking up and standing on the back porch like I used to and looking into the woods for my dog.

Anyway, I’ve got a major life change coming up in about two yrs when my kids are driving, I’m going to bail on Stl and head to SD or AZ. Best to pack light until then. But I’m thinking German Shepard next time around.

Sadly, because it is such a popular breed, GSD's can be found for adoption everywhere. Once you get settled in I know there is a new best friend waiting for you. Until then, take care. I have had a real problem trying to wait a year or two between pups in my life.

RIP Kip, and condolences. GSDs are great dogs, but I’m biased. True that many can be found in shelters and there are many rescue orgs.

I have had a dog since 1979, this was the first year in 40 years I spent without a dog...I thought I wanted more freedom, I was wrong. I have been looking at the pitbull rescue sites a lot lately, most likely we will have a new snorking pig like dog by spring.

My condolences to everyone who has lost a friend in this thread
