Post-Op Report
Well the good news is, stitches came out today. Doc came in and was shocked (in a good way). Said my knee should still be swelled up like a balloon. It’s not. It’s still swollen but he said that as far as the swelling goes it looks like I had surgery over three weeks ago, not two weeks ago.
Showed me the pictures. Thought I would get woozy looking at them but it was actually kind of cool, although I wish it was a knee I didn’t know and not mine.
Pictures showed cartilage floating in places (of course removed) and the lateral meniscus was repaired.
Apparently I have post-traumatic arthritis in two places right down to the bone. One place is directly on the knee cap. Which apparently was his initial reasoning for not reconstructing the ACL.
For the hell of it (I was feeling him out), I asked him if I can go back to skiing the way I did without the ACL and he said “no.” Said that after the prescribed six weeks of therapy, three times a week, he’ll do the reconstruction if I want (duh, I want). He said that normally he wouldn’t do it because of the post-traumtic arthritis (and yes, my age).... but he said so far from what he sees post-op by my healing, my body is younger than my age number (woohoo) and because I’m active. I think it finally sunk into his thick doctor skull what skiing means to me.
Won’t fit me for the Donjoy for another six weeks because he wants to make sure all of the swelling is down.
I am still going to see the second Doc because I still feel my current Doc is hesitant to do the reconstruction..... just a feeling I get. So I call tomorrow for my first PT appointment and the second appointment with the other Doc is the 29th.
