they are a f'n pain in the ass for touring. that's why i stopped wearing one.

life link boundary pack and no bucket or life link guide pack and brain bucket.

last run i skied, i chose the former, gaperman chose the latter, yet i still sound smarter than him.

anyone who tours a lot use one?

About five years ago I was skiing untracked powder in the Cirque at Snowmass when my right ski snagged a burried rock, and stopped dead, launching me over the handlebars headfirst into the snow. My head fortunately missed the other BIG ASS burried rock that was a mere 6 inches to the left of my noggin. THAT woulda been very very bad. Bought a Giro 9 the next day (it fits, and it is well vented), and have worn it every ski day since, including toruing.

Come on - all the cool kids are doin' it.

Hey, that's awesome! Someone better take advantage of this deal. Another example of fine maggot/minion generosity.

Yes, as long as it matches your one-piece.

I hear you can even get them with the logo on the chinstrap.

Get the helmet. It works better than a cotton beanie for both protection and warmth. I got a helmet this year, not as cool as everyone's Giro 9 though. Wish I would have read this post before I bought my helmet, cause then I could have gotten on the band waggon

Just read about two deaths that happenned at little areas in the Northeast this week- One at West Mtn.NY and one at Wachusett MA. Glad I bought a brain bucket this year. I probably won't ski without one ever again.

    free advice:
I first got a helmet because I was afraid of getting "run over" by a snowboarder.....I was telling a friend (with no helmet) this as we headed up the first chair of the day and he laughed.....then after waiting for him for 10 minutes at the bottom of the run (stevens, weekend crowds), he showed up wrecked, and told me that he had indeed been run over by a snowboarder.....twice!

Another friend has cited an article in the NYT suggesting that people who wear helmets are more likely to get hurt.....people feel safer and ski more aggressively.....but I think that is BS.....

free advice....try on a bunch of different models, and make sure it fits well....also bring your goggles to be sure they will work well together......

Actually, I think that has some merit. I know after I started to pad up and wear knee/shin guards and elbow pads wilst riding a bike I tended to be alot more aggressive. It's the whole mind-set that since you're all protected you'll be a lot safer and then you push just a little bit harder.

As for the snowboarder thing, ski faster and run them over.
