Respect what? Stupidity? I respect his skiing ability. I even respect his helping Str8line w/his camps, and the partnership he has with Owens (I think) in his new lodge, but fucking running from the cops while DUI is not worthy of anything but scorn.

I agree. Scorn maybe. But not buggering action. I don't want to think of one of my ski heroes having cellbound manlove.

In that case I'd suggest watching Nobis's segment in Harvest and then watching 'American History X'. No wait. I'd recommend NOT doing that. Sorry for the confusion.

Looks like Nobis is going to become friends w/Dr.Bob & Bill W and start looking for a "sponser", except this sponser will not be giving him $$ or gear!

    Excellent point.

..dude can't complain if he he took off running...pretty stupid...

When dealing with the police, it is best to take it in the shorts now- OR you'll be taking it in the shorts later. Ouch.

BTW- we all know about Utah, but who said anything about jail time...is Utah THAT strict?

Running from the cops only works in the movies. Of course, in an inebriated state, with impaired judgment, I can almost see where one might think "I got this." We've all daydreamed about a glorious chase where glorious driving skills prevail, and you end up in the last scene, driving away, fist pumping in glorious success. Cue the Kenny Loggins. Convincing one's self of this is so much easier after many beers.

Just to be clear, this cop car was NOT involved in the apprehension of Mr. Nobis.

Not really. Depends how well they've seen you, how quick you can drive, how well you know the local area and what head start you have.

due to liability issues, law enforcement calls off chases more than you think. Plenty of people have been killed by some ignorant cop chasing a guy for having a tail light out. BUT... that's only in the big city...

A bunch of donut eaters in Park City (or Jackson Hole) love those "big city" thrills and would chase their own tails if given the chance...

These small town guys have WAY too much time on their hands.

That said- what Nobis did was stupid!

Or an H2 for that matter. Thanks LB.

I guess it depends on where you are. How many KTLA Breaking News stories have you seen with the chopper following some dude running on foot down alleys and thru backyards. Then maybe they flip on the Forward Looking Infrared Radar and find his heat sig hiding behind a dumpster. When i lived in SoCal this shit was on the news nightly, I guess it was a good deterent for running from cops. However, in Park Meadows it might just be Andy and Barney following a drunk guy.

I saw a RealTV once where a guy on a sport bike was being chased by a Crown Vicky and he was thinking ahead....he led them onto an extremely tight road with tons of 180s and hairpins. He would have been set except for the fact that the douchebag could not corner a motorcycle to save his life. It was laughable as he stood it up around every turn and finally got into the dirt shoulder.

If Nobis really wanted to get away he wouldn't have gone into Park Meadows - 2 exit points including the one he entered. Plus the description of his route was basically going in circles on a very narrow street that right now has become narrower by snowbanks.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Care to put a wager on this? I like the guy and know him from around town and TGR stuff but like it's been said already to most PC folks (read - SLC commuters) he's just another ski bum.

He'll probably get off pretty easy. Utah has been working hard on a more "moderate" image...that won't be helped by slapping aroung some famous ski bum. He's best served by waving the stars and bars- "hey I was a member of the olympic team"
