May skiing in the lower 48

Yup I might be going south for a road trip visiting Montana, Utah, Norther California, Oregon then back to AK in may before starting work (hopefully commercial set netting ) to visit all my buddies going to schools that get out mid June so I'm thinking whats there to do in may? hopefully there will be snow still in Utah (may powder days like last year would be sweet) and then Hood is there as is blackcomb and climbing is always fun. I'm just thinking is there skiing in MT in may or the sierras? Right now its sorta a crazy idea of mine and my buddy who's going through a quarter life crisis... Anybody want to talk me out of it?

Skiing in may for tahoe will probably be good this year. I'm sure Alpine will have very good corn at that time. And as for climbing, There is no better time to be in Yosemite valley than may. Lover's leap near tahoe might be good also, but it's directly north facing so it might still be cold in the mornings.

Mammoth is always a good bet to be pretty much fully open in May, and this year is looking good--and some of the best stuff on the mountain is open til the end. Here are some photos from last year's closing day (which was july 4)

    As for Cali:

second the mammoth idea b/c they were open to 4th of july last year - probably best bet for resort skiing.

bring skins and go up to shasta. may is a good time for skiing and they are above avg in snow this season. fun mtn. you should like it, i may be up there doing some climbing in late may or early june, just FYI.

I've been there (in July actually) and it was pretty fun, but more something to do if you are in Montana than a reason to go there. Stick w/Mammoth
