    Really? Link?
Less than 1/2ft per night for a few days doesn't really add up.

the models are flip-flopping on whether the storm system approaching our direction will split or not. Regardless, there will be a good supply of gulf moisture out of this storm--- but the setup could end up being similar to that storm in March '03. Or, the damn thing could split and we could end up being left high and fairly dry. check out the AFD for a better/more knowledgeable explanation: http://iwin.nws.noaa.gov/iwin/co/zone.html

and remember that in 03, the Vail area didn't get nearly the amounts as the areas right on and east of the divide.

yea, nick, i dunno. i am realllly hoping it comes our way, but i dunno. the faultiness of our news reports for snow have given me enough evidence to doubt...but i am still hoping. we will see what happens come tomorrow.

looks like nick may have had a good hunch...these upslope events are hard to predict, but channel 4 just flashed a graphic callling for 18" to 30" on the east slopes of the front range starting tomorrow.

every time a storm like this comes through, it amazes me how many front range residents have a complete and utter lack of understanding of the term "upslope."

    This is why...

Urban Dictionary defines "upslope" as: upslope is undefined

    Who knew...

The weather people know better though:

(Upslope Flow) - Occurs when air is forced to rise and cool due to terrain features such as hills or mountains. If the cooling is sufficient, water vapor condenses into clouds. Additional cooling results in rain or snow.

Whatever it is, Vail got 7" out of it so far...

    Upslope

This storn sure doesnt show up on any of the radars for the mountains. I am betting the front range gets a wet pounding and the mountains get a dusting. When you look at the web cams up in Vail and other Summit mountains it is clear blue sky up there. Not that tells you much but this time of year is perfect for some chautauqua Park skiing but I am not sure Vail is going to see 18"-30".

I'm thinking Vail was being a little optimistic with its snow totals, too- 7" when BC reported 4" and no one else in Summit got more than 1".

Dont have any but in that huge dump in 2003 there were some people that banged their way down some of the slopes at Chautauqua Park. Not that I would recommend it.

This storm will miss most of the resorts west of the divide (ie., Summit Co., Vail, etc. though Breck could do well if the flow is more Southeasterly)

Anyone hitting up Loveland or Eldora tomorrow? I may do that or hit up a bc spot near RMNP. Although I imagine driving anywhere from Denver tomorrow will be a shit show.

I was thinking the cottonwood canyons, actually. Utah's snow actually falls on steep terrain.

Yes, yes it does. And I am out there very soon!

Starting to think about kayaking a little though. However, one good dump out here and I will forget about that for another month or so.

C'mon, now . . . Crested Butte has a good 75" base, and it's still snowing down there.
