Lightbulb Naxo users, step right up and get your Torsional stiffeners...

I was talking with my engineer roommate, who has the ability to machine aluminum where he works, about making torsional stiffeners for the NX01's.

He thinks he can make a huge difference, we'll try it with mine first, but the offer is being extended to mags as well.

Cost will be around $30 (just planning, haven't gotten materials or set up the CNC) Getting a feeler for who might be interested.

The piece will either be along the lines of Lou Dawson's
    OR
we might make a U frame or a box to go around the bars. This ought to be a stronger design (which nx21 users could use). It'll be about the same amount of aluminum, just in a different shape, so the same weight as the insert from Lou's idea.

whaddaya think? (we'd also need to know which bindings and your bootsole length)

I think allot of the flex of the Naxo is due to the roomy fit of the aluminum shaft into the plastic heal-lock part (i.e. the hotdog in the hallway effect). But I'm sure the modifications couldn't hurt.

There's a fix for this on Lou's site as well, but we aren't going to manufacture 1 sided sillicon tape

Summit, not sure what the actual price is going to be, I told him to throw out a number and he said it wouldnt be over $30. I don't want to tell you guys $15 then have to up it.

I'm interested, if they seem to work well for you. Medium binding, 320 boot sole on the boot I usually use with 'em, but as someone else mentioned, could change...

Any idea how much this would beef up the nx21? Looks like it did a significant job for the nx01 (close to 50% stiffer), but I'm wondering if you'd see the same improvement on the nx21? If it did, then it'd be even better than the Dynafit (which was the stiffest tested).

$30 isn't bad, but it sounds like you're friend is making it way to complicated if he's using CNC. You can buy really long lengths of 1" x 1/4" aluminum bar, run a router down the sides and cut it to the lengths you need. Or just use a manual mill, I bet you could make two stiffeners in 5-10 minutes.

Once you get the bar in there, what about welding it in place? Err, maybe a bad idea since the surrounding areas are plastic.

I think the idea is to get it tight fitting enough that you wouldn't need anything. Welding really isn't an option, epoxy would be though.

    varying boots sizes?

Wouldn't bar just need to be sized to binding size - small, medium and large? if not just shortest boot likely to be used?

Dynafit=lighter, stiffer, no mod needed. Something to consider.

Basically, but the longer the bar the more rigid. So if no one is skiing a 286 bootsole, we won't cut those.

No updates, I've been using the Naxo's and he wants to take them to work to get measurements.
