    GUESS MY WEIGHT!!!!

This is a tale of ebay gone wrong. I got this sweet set up for 5 bucks.
Then the dude emails me and says:

"The items are in the mail- not a light package, fyi. With the packaging requirements and the weight of the shipment, the total shipping cost came to $207.65. "

    We both live in Washington....WTF

Yeah you are being taken for a ride. Just go to the website for whatever shipping service he says hes using and you can figure out how much shipping would be.

Sounds dodgy - who would still ship them at that rate, without double checking with the buyer??!!

I'd be refusing delivery and return to sender......

scam. cheap sale price, back end loaded "shipping and handling" tell him you will pick them up since you both live in the same state. I guarantee he won't let you do it

Unless he sent it overnight, no way it's over $200 for shipping. Scam city.

I sent a friend a rowing machine last summer. The box was huge, at least 5 feet tall, by 2.5 ft by 2.5 feet. It probably weighed 50 lbs. It cost 80 bucks to ship fedex. There is no way it cost 200 bucks to send that stuff and you shouldn't pay the guy.

Refuse to pay. If he can't come up with a more reasonable number, just refuse the package and it will be sent back to him at zero expense to you.

ask for the dimensions+weight and tell him you'll arrange the shipping pickup for him . In reality he's trying to dodge ebay fees and screw you, as they don't charge fees for shipping.

tell him to fax you the bill from ups or you will refuse the package.

i bought a chvey 4.3 motor on ebay and had it shipped truck freight from wisconsin to montana for less than that.

while you are at it - notify ebay. As pointed out above, the dude is ducking ebay fees... and for some odd reason they frown on that sort of thing.

Some definite bullshit going on! I shipped a Yakima Bighorn 4 hitch-mount rack across the country a few months back. It weighed in at right around 35 lbs and shipping was around $45. I'd follow the previous advice and tell the guy that you'll pick it up.
I think that the human mind is unique among all other forms of life in that it can spontaneously create unique thoughts and provide unique behaviors. Instead of rewarding that uniqueness we, for some reason probably because of cultural and social necessity, we chastise unique behavior and reward conformity.

Have you got a UPS tracking number? If you do you can probably find out what the 'real' shipping cost was from them. Otherwise just refuse the shipment when it shows up.

I'd also definitely contact ebay and notify them.

Aren't you suposed to agree to the shipping costs before you pay him?

    WELL...

Yeah I guess (agree to shipping B4 paying)

But he didn't want to take paypal....asked me to send him a check for an absurd amount....I absolutely couldn't believe he wouldn't contact me before paying out of his own pocket for that shipping amount. WTF.

I mean shit....I could have a down payment on a pair of Kingswood for that!!!!!

so...He sent me his house address where he wants the check sent to...remember....$5 dollar product with $207.65 in shipping. I think I'll just keep the rack... head to Crystal Mountain this weekend which passes by dudes house...then I'll take a dump, wrap a 5-spot around it, and conveniently drop it through the mail slot!

You could always call your bank and cancel the cheque if it hasn't gone through yet. Personally I think the last thing you should do is just roll over and let this guy get away with this shit. Just encourages it.

Er, you'd get a bad feedback rating? Personally I prefer the shit in paper bag gag. Put it on hi doorstep, set it on fire, ring his doorbell then retreat to a safe distace o watch him stamp in shit. Priceless.

been there done that with a packaged lot of cd's from europe.

    suggestions:
-dont do anything until the package actually shows up. i doubt the douche would really ship the thing blind w/o payment.
-if it does show up take the unopened box down to UPS/FedEX/USPS and find out what the fucker actually cost to ship.
-compose a forwarded copy of his e-mail with requested 207$ shipping charges plus documentation of actaul shipping, and send it to him telling you you'll either A) give him 5$ + actual shipping and keep the box, or B)slap a return to sender on the box and forward said e-mail to ebay. things like this really piss them off.

    conversely,

5 spot + turd is a pretty solid idea, but if he has your address for shipping and can douche up your ebay, it might be more trouble than it's worth.
