    Alpine 3/10/06 TR

Based on the Forecast I decided to head up on Thursday night and hoped for some good snow. We got great snow. Skied w/ Freshies, 3Pin and 3Pin’s non-maggot friend Bones.

This was arguably the best snow I have skied in 14 yr of tahoe skiing.

Not 666 quality, but here is the TR.

    Quick Dinner w/ Family:

    Preparing beverage for the road.

Snowing in Line up (about 30 minutes worth of snowing on skis)

    Freshies chatting it up

    Maggot Chair. (3pin & StormDay)

Found some sun in Expert Shortcut
    3Pin:

    Bones ….

Started to cloud up when we hit Art’s
    Options in Art’s

    Bones:

    3Pin:

    StormDay enjoying Pow day facial

    End of a good day:

How in the hell did you get that at Alpine, when I got styrofoam & chunky crud at Rose?

    Nice pics...

The snowfall over these last few days is almost all convective -- so the front of the Crest forces most of the moisture out. There's not a lot left for East-side resorts like Rose and the Heave.

I figure it's payback for all those days in December and January where it rained at Alpine and Squaw but we skied creamy goodness at Rose.

I missed framed this one and didn't have time to crop it before driving back.

Looks like you are working on a beard....

BTW: Traffic going up the hill looked REALLY REALLY bad. I think there will be plenty of people getting a late start tomorrow.

I heart Kirkwood, but I've skied there for so many years that I needed a change.

I still have unfinished business and one lift ticket, though. You'll see me there, just not this weekend. Holy traffic cluster$%@#!

nice one guys. i had a funny feeling when i left my house this morning that this was going to be a good one.... especially when i pulled into the office and figured out they had 5"-7" of snow vs. my house which had 2"-3" of snow and they are only 2 miles apart!?! just one of those storms where snow dumps in some places and not in others.

    oh well.... great shots...

Got into TD last night around 9:45. After we got the kids into bed and cracked open a bottle of '03 Chappellet Merlot with our first-timeskier friends and our housemate, I found an excuse to check the site. Pulled up this thread, laughed at the espresso machine porn pic, then got to the skiing pics -- exclaim some superlative, show the screen around, retrieve laptop, page down, repeat.

Then I got to this pic:

Wish you were up today to hit it with us. But if today is half as good as yesterday, I will be a happy man.

Oh man, that was soooo gooood. I made it over to Alpine too, and found Irul&Ublo at the base of Summit. Unfortunately, we never managed to scare up the rest of y'all's, but it was pretty hard to stand around at the bottom and shout out some nonsense about change when there was ALL THAT FREAKIN' GOODNESS to be slayed, just waiting impatiently for us up top.

In short, I agree with the previous posts; one of the best powder days of my 32 ski years, no question. Sisters was gorgeous. High Yellow was beyond any words I have at my command. And far-traverse-(skier's)right of Scott, thru the notch and down to the drop over the rockband guarding the big glade overlooking the Promised Land runout, was sooo nice I just did laps for 2 1/2 hours straight, grinning all the time. Irul, it was a pretty damn fine day to meet you; thanks for tooling around w/ me and sorry I didn't find you for that 4pm last-chair hike over to High Yellow. What you didn't miss was the small avvy I set off going over the nose, so count your blessings. ANYhoo, I hope I'll catch up with you (and the rest of the N. Tahoe gang as well) some future day at AM.

    Peace,
    -Shawn
