One day about that same year I tried those stupid boots too. Must have been about 10 at the time. Those things sucked so much, if you went off a jump you had to lean back with your knees straight to land because they had no tips and you'd just fall on your face. Glad to see those died out real quick.

If you include sitting around and looking like a bunch of retards, I'm sure plenty of maggots have accomplished that.

If I rode at a dinky little area like that, I'd probably want some dinky little skis too..

well, sure we can all generalize about skiboarder this and snowblader that, but i had a funny run-in w/a pack of crude, middle aged (and quite possibly retarded) bladers from queens (NYC) while at mt snow a couple of springs back.

waiting for lift, these three are trying to join/be joined by an attractive, and perhaps snobby woman (on skis)...as the open chair approches, she refuses them, so i step up to take the fourth seat w/them...as we depart one of 'em yells back "you bitch...you think you're better than me?!?" i try to calm the guy down, and he lets it go...as we survey the thinning cover below, and the growing wet+brown bare spots, one of the others comments "that looks like my underwear"

me: "you mean it has holes in it?"
him: "no it's got brown stains"

we laugh...but i don't think he was kidding

    ----
on the other hand, there was a young woman ripping up the bumps on chute at MAD last march...looking better than almost anyone on the trail that day...on blades w/poles

I've never seen anything like that before so i gave them a try. On the first run I was going of kickers and drops like I had been riding these things for years. They were fun for about 3 runs then I got bored and went back to my skis until I broke my collar bone.

those look like a LOT of fun

the little "may cause muscle pain" logo showing the bone snapped in two(!) should be the giveaway (funny, after a hard workout of any kind, i never equate sore muscles with broken bones)...file with "invisible pedestrian" from those halloween costume bits dan akroyd did on SNL in the 70s

It is too bad that those people wasted a tuckermans trip on snowlerblades. That is like skiing race skis in AK (AK rocket? try AK submarine).
I generally ski my Head Monsters im85 with freerides. I skin up the Sherburne Trail which is way less crowded. You can skin up all the way to the top of the bowl (snow dependent obviously) and then boot pack up the steeps. I have heard of some people skinning all the way up Right Gully by using ski crampons with their setup but have never seen it. I'm pretty sure others on this board have skinned up the Tuckerman Trail also, but I always do Sherbie.

Kind of funny, now that I have found the skinning thing, once I can't skin from the bottom, my enthusiasm to go up there drops considerably. Hello, my name is H-man and I'm a spoiled AT skinner.....

One positive note on snowlerblades - (yes I have tried them along with just about every other device for sliding snow) - My wife had major knee surgery a couple of years ago and she tried out a pair of blades the next season. she rides them every non-powder day, as they are much easier on her knees - less swing weight applied to the knee = less pain. I occasionally use them when chasing my son around the beginner slope as well - easier (for me) to go backwards in front of him, go slow enough for him to keep up (not much of a problem anymore)
They are a good tool for the right situation - low speed, groomers, etc - wouldn't even think of them on any kind of powder day...

edit: the sleddogs remind me of the figls that are used at least here in austria. basically short skis without tails (or 1cm of tail), some of them can be used with snowboard or hiking boots just, some have bindings like snowblades. they're only usable when the snow is slushy. you do not make turns, instead you keep your weight wayyyy back so that the tails dig into the snow which "controls" the speed.. they seem to be popular among the locals and in the late spring i often found myself as the only guy with skis at the local skiing area. in the resorts the figlers usually follow eachother making runnels, which can end up being over 1m deep and not unusually all the way to the ground (i guess this is why the figls are usually made of full metal), and in the end there are funnels everywhere which makes for not-so-nice skiing. originally used by mountaineers in late spring/summer to avoid walking down the slopes.. unfortunately i didnt find any pics of figls in action but here are some anyway:

That's easier than a spread eagle on skis. Tricks on sled dogs takes very little skill other than the ability to stand.

I don't care about any of this pc crap, kids that dress like they're mainstream rappers, and act all core about doing tiny little jumps and going really slow on short tiny funny looking versions of skis are fucking retarded.

It's like people trying to convince formula1 racers that kids go carts are more core.

But i do thank them for all the laughs.

Seems like the toughest trick would be to land with those things.

This thread makes me think of this guy.

Several years ago at Mt. Baker I saw a skiboarder (snowblader?) trying to get down from chair 6. It was a typical 12" Baker day and this guy was pretty much snowshoeing down the hill (thought it was Duncan!). What a douche!

I can't hate too much. They are having a good time doing what ehy're doing, and I will give them credit, I can't land jumps on those things NEARLY as easily as on my skis.

But would a bunch of F1 drivers rip on people having fun in carts? I doubt it.

Each to their own, I reckon. If it's fun, who gives a rat's ass?
