Can someone throw me a report. The weather looks like you are getting a bit everyday this week, but not lots. How is it skiing?
Thanks.... Huck

Avy said we got 3 inches last night - We skinned out to the Claw this morning and it was awesome - knee deep and super light - lots of loading going on. Mountain is pretty hammered but it's supposed to snow on and off all week. Definitely still some good stuff to be had and hopefully will only continue to get better. Enjoy your trip.
Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn.
Would you recommend Randone gear? We only have 3 days, and paid for some deal where we are buying 3 lift tickets (so no Teton Pass).
If we want to do lots of exploring out the gates can we use Alpine gear, or should we skin. And two buddies are on boards (but are strong split boarders).

If you aren't hitting the pass - alpine gear is definitely good and you can still easily access eveything out the gates.

was in jhole all wknd was warm but the bowls were pretty good tensleep bowl was pretty good sunday
It was called the eighties, Ford was president, Nixon was in the white house, and FDR was running the country into the ground.
I have reports as well that say out off the gates, the skiing's been perrrrttyyy gooood.![]()
You really only need AT gear for the pass or serious touring out of the gates. you can do the majority with just alpine gear. We were quite happy with just Alpine gear for the 5 days we were there.
He who has the most fun wins!
SCHWEET!! Thanks all......I'm stoked no matter what...but very happy to hear it may be pretty decent!

Im heading out there too this weekend, and have never been before. Any reccomendations on some good cliffs (20ish) if the snow is soft?
Also,
They dont blast out of bounds... do they?
ummm.. you will definatly see MANY cliffs at Jackson. if none suit you in bounds go out of bonds towards codyOriginally Posted by Catbert
That being said, Granite would be better on the boarders with the splits, IMO. There is some serious traversing...Rock Springs should be fine if they know how to follow or NOT follow the lowest line. They do NOT bomb OB, that is precisely why it is OB. Have fun!Originally Posted by comish
it's riding really well. you'll find good snow if you look around. be careful -- just because it's easy to go through the gates doesn't mean the terrain isn't worthy of serious respect -- there's some serious instability lurking out there.
What everyone said about alpine gear is true -- you can get by with it everywhere in the "sidecountry" (lift-accessed OB). everything has a boot pack or side-step/traverse.
That said, i think rando gear is far more versatile (even for inbounds)...but if you know you're always riding lifts, go with the alpine.
Alpine is fine.
I was there last Mon-Friday. BC is super nice. Do a Pucker to No Name for a good tour. We went out to St. Pattys, which was really nice and the bowl below St. Patty's was choice. Pucker to St. Patty's is an even better tour. Four pines, much easier, will also be nice with a bit of snow or wind movement.
Fuck granite. I fucking hate that traverse like I hate a canker sore. Do Cody or No name. The hike is more scenic, the snow is higher and better. And you're in the high alpine versus the trees.
ROBOTS ARE EATING MY FACE.
Thanks all for the info.Originally Posted by upallnight
Is there a standard spot at the base where you can check in for current avy conditions? How do we get beta?
We have a knowledgable group (one buddy is Squaw Patrol/Pnts Norht Heli guide), so will be careful......that said, not consistently watching snowpack leaves you unprepared. Who do we talk to.
THE TRUCK IS PACKED AND I AM STOKED>>>>>>LEAVING AT 4!

they used to post the avy report on the tram dock. otherwise call 307-733-2664 for the report
I just got back from 5 days at jh/gt and thought that I would pass along my 7-post, jong-ass thoughts after reading this thread.
Thu - 2nd day leftovers of maybe 8”, pretty tracked out, best snow was in the trees on the north-facing ridges accessed by sublette and thunder
Fri - 40’s and sunny all day, everything thawed, mashed potatoes for everyone, moran and saratoga lots of fun
Sat – no sun and colder temps = solid block of ice, morning conditions were horrid, late afternoon snow and wind almost filled in trees in the upper third of the mountain, hike to cody bowl turned up a good line and pretty good snow
Sun – heard gt got more snow and with its higher base we gambled and rode the bus over, 6 in of fresh on top of NOT ice, nice mellow lines all morning
Mon – windy, storm blew in, inbounds hike turned up more 6 in of fresh on top of uncompacted base, trees off sacajawea still had the goods, worth the trip again
In conclusion…
hostel + mangy moose = the setup
if by chance conditions suck at jh, gt may be worth the trip
Thanks mang....post 7 or not....that is EXACTLY what I was looking for.
We are leaving Squaw when it is going off (biggest in bounds cliff ever?).....but oh well, cannot pick these dates in Dec.
A road trip is always solid, and I am excited about Jackson exploring.
