Question Any maggots signing up for the Snowbird comp?

I'm going to go for it. I just got the OK on time off and reserved my space for the qualifier. It would be cool if some other maggots were entering too. I'm excited to see whether I choke or go off. I get all juiced just thinking about it. I'm sure I'd piss myself with anticipation up top. It'll be a nice way to start off the mini anyway.

Those who have competed...what was it like? I've never even watched one of these things. Needless to say I'm pumped and scared, but not necessarily in that order.

i get so many damn butterflies in my stomach when i think about this.
i will be reserving my spot to qualify towards the end of the month, knee depending...and it won't be hard to get a spot as there are now where near as many ladies as there are dudes.
so yes, i'll be there. these comps are fun to watch, and even better to compete in. i can't wait.

I'm going to go to it, but not in it. I want to see you crazies go off and make us Maggots proud. Friday of the MINI, right??

I have read a few others plan to enter, as they wanted Snowbird for that Friday for the MINI for the Comp. That is a lot of for's. Damn.

Bacon Ranger needs to be changed to Spyder Man!! Good luck Peter Parker.

PM me you cellie, I gots a few questions for ya.

[hijack] Your sis shares an office with my wife, small world, and she came in one day and asked Erica, "This may sound a bit weird, but is your husband a Maggot??" Erica laughed and said "he tries". [/end hijack]

I got a lot of great advice on this topic from lemon boy and others on this over on p-mag last winter....but sadly, the thread's are gone.

These comps are super super fun (and gnarly and rad and hella cool ) Heck I thought the weeks preceding the comp was just as fun, if not more fun, than the actual comp. Knowing that your're signed up and committed to one of these, it pushes your skiing even farther than usual and you start looking at lines differently...ex: ok, here's how I normally would ski this line....but how would I ski it in a comp?....it's usually much faster, or linked w/o stopping, or more technical in some way. You then begin skiing like that more often than not.

I've only done one of these things, so I don't have a lot of experience in them, but I thought it was definitely worth the time and money and definitely look forward to doing it again.

oh and for qualifying.....I think it's best to ski a line that's totally within your capabilities and rip the schit out of it....rather than ski a line that's just beyond and flail on it. take that advice with a grain of salt though 'cause I missed qualifying by .5 points

Z did it, but then he's not scared to be pumped, if the price is right.

I'd love to, but gonna abstain this year I think. I've got a ski demo in Ahhhspen I have to go to that same week, so I won't even get to watch

TS--don't be too down about missing the qualifiers...keep gettin after it. It takes experience to figer out how to strategerize in the comps. I tried at Crested Butte 3 times, never crashed, and kept missing qual by 1-2 points, mostly b/c I never got there enuf ahead of time to feel comfy w/ the lines and know where i was going.

Versus, I did pretty well at the Berthoud and Snowmass championships a couple years--made it to final day both comps. Knowing your line is soooooo key I can't emphasize it enough.

I'll write more later...this subject should be preserved here since the old pmag thread's gone. I'm sure LB will chime in, and others.

MD9, I'll be there, not in it, BUT, the tele comp is there the 2nd weekend in march, I'll be in that one.

I competed in one last year, hence the knee injury, I did what baker boy said, skiied the holy shit line and flailed it, almost pulled it off though.

They're super fun, at least the tele ones, the atmosphere is cool, you're so amped at the top. I couldn't think about anything else but the line I was about to ski, just wanted to go hard and aggressive, did that until I lay in a crumpled heap at the bottom of the 40' drop that didn't have as clear an LZ as it did when I scouted it, damn trees.

    Still fun though.

My man. Lincolns are not learned by sitting back and repeating "when are ya going to teach me lincolns? when are ya going to teach me lincolns???"

You gotta make it happen. Pick a day to build a booter and put a crew together. Just Do It. (tm)

    I am bumpin!

I am not a moggot but so ready to compete!
I will be teleing though, and I am a girl.
I want to go a week early and build some kickers to practice off of. Any takers? I am nervous but thinking of the beer I can reward myself with when I am done.
