I didn't know there was another Alta, but heres a TR w/pics from the one in UT

Don't get me wrong, this season has treated UT pretty well. While we haven't had any big dumps, we've had alot of consistent snowfall and stable BC conditions. Weather reports called for 6-8" overnight, and my hopes were high. I drank myself silly, and at 1am the Collins plot still showed 0" of accumulation. After firing off a couple angry text messages, I passed out, thinking that it'd be another 3" dust on crust morning at the local hill.

I awoke, noticed it was already bluebird, groaned (the forecast had said snow through the morning hours), and prepared myself for the worst. For the first time in months, I was pleasantly surprised when I checked the plot. 7". Not bad. Rolled up the canyon amidst a total clusterfuck (how the fuck does traffic STOP at the Y cooly on a day when the roads are completely clear?). Boris and Bags were nice enough to save me a spot in 2nd row. Thanks guys.

The next few hours are kind of a blur of really deep turns on some slick crusts, and a few really really fast straightlines. Faceshots in West and in Thirds. Over to Bad News where I point it over Punani's and Boris just nails a straightrun down through the gut. Good stuff. Then its off to Glory Hole, where CS fucking blasts down Harpo's over ice and traverse ruts. Burly. We get lucky, and the rope on Castle drops as we unload on Sugarloaf. Ski some pow down to the batcave, adn things get interesting. I drop in, mach it out, do the now-common "give up at the compressions". Gaper drops in from looker's left, and I try to signal to Boris to hold up. I guess they interpreted my stop sign as go. I watch as the tourist makes turn after turn in Boris's path, and ultimately gets clipped as Boris rifles through the compressions in the runout. Both folks were okay, apologized, and I sighed a nice sigh of relief. Pics.

We break for lunch, gather up packs, collect a Powho, and head out to Patsey Marley. It didn't take us much time after reaching the peak to reassess our plans of skiing the west face of Patsey, as Wolverine Cirque was clean, but-for 2 big lines thrown down earlier in the day. We split the group up a bit, with Powho and CS (team Beast) heading for a due north-facing line, and me, Boris and Bags (team Gotama) heading out to the dead tree chute on the west side of the cirque.

I snapped a couple of pictures of CS and Powho killing it from our vantage point across the way.

Snow was $$$ back there. First turn over the large cornice to zipper crust was kind of disturbing, but quickly gave way to really deep big turns. Giddyup. Back out Grizzly to GMD for pizza and beers. Not too shabby. CS took some pictures as well. Hopefully he throws em up here tonight.

    Good work boys.

    Another good day missed. Damn.

finally good to see a report over 4 inches (yes, we are spoiled)

we had a great day as well. Skied with DTM's parents, then I played tourguide for them while DTM took down some lines and skied Baldy Chutes.

...and you guys TOTALLY missed out on my leg catching a stick and now I have a gi-huge-ic bruise on my thigh run in Glory Hole, it was so gnar. I'll have to post pics of how black and blue and purple and red it's getting. (which really means it effing hurts right now)

Dude's about ten years younger than you, one of these days he'll bust past ya and never look back. You know it's true.

Just like I know I can't keep up with you on the uphill, more or less the same reason, plus, I suck.

Nice report stump. I'll see you bioytches in 5 days, been too long at sea level--I've got 3 days of training with da crew at crystal ahead of me to get me ready for varsity try-outs in LCC. The graduated altitude method I call it.

Nice write-up stumpy. Twas indeed a good day today. Which was nice considering not a whole lot was expected. Started the day with a couple solo laps then met up with the gaggle. Fun and bumpy straightline in Glory Hole, tried to jump off some rocks in the Castle (bad idea), then got sick of waiting in line so some walking was in order.

Like stump said, the plan was to do a mellow Patsy, but to our surprise only two tracks had been laid down in Wolverine. Well, that was just too nice to see so plans were quickly changed. Powho and I did the line right off the summit. A bit of downclimbing then a couple wind pillows that sloughed nicely but were mostly benign. The chute doglegs a bit so I went down to the dogleg and it just opened up beautifully. Snow was variable in places but pretty damn good for the most part.

So I pulled off and told Powho of the goodness below me. He decided just to ski down to and by my while I shot some pics and then just send the whole thing. You should have heard him when he came around the dogleg and saw it open up. The anti-stoke of a week ago was officially gone. Super fun fast snow going out. Then we got to watch team Gotama tear up the Huge chute.

    Enough talk, some pictures:

It was about this point that Powho caught a glimpse of the wide-open goodness below. Notice the anti-stoke killer smile.

    Still smilin

And then he pointed 'em and all I saw was smoke.

    Team Gotama, bags representin.

And this pretty much says it all. Bagtagley got to enjoy his first bc day in Wolverine Cirque. Not bad, not bad at all.

And the rest of team Gotama. Borris schralpin.

And that's that. Oh, and RB, don't be teasin us now. Saw some stuff out in Rocky Point that needs to get done once we are graced with a couple feet of fluff. Days like today remind me why this sport is so damn fun.

    WeeeeEEeEEe, super fun day

i had a similar experience to stump last night/this morning. didn't start snowing in the valley till 1am-ish when i left the bar....so when i woke up at 7:30 to see sunshine I went ahead and hit snooze thinking there is no way we got over 3 inches. um. oops?

7inches is so money these days. Also got stopped on the road on the way up, but still made it before the lift was loading and hopped in the singles line. Ran into Tresckow and hit some 3rds to garbage chute, some ballroom/shoulder, more 3rds to bombay(?), and decided we needed to go up baldy. ran into AG at sugarloaf and since she had already gotten lost from her peoples we stole her and made her hike baldy with us. i could tell she was bummed to have lost her peeps and be forced to ski baldy.

so we skiied main chute, and all its soft pillowy-piles-of-snowy-goodness. and i am stoked to say that is the first time i have skiied main chute since i moved here, so i get to check that one off the list. woO!

Tresckow was coordinating to meet up with Kristin, RippedDisc and crew at the GMD to head out to rocky point, so we hit some lower shoulder and headed down. Lost Ned in a sandwhich eating frenzy and headed to rocky point with Kristen, RD, and friends (sans tresckow). skiied something....not sure if it has a name but it was nice and soft, no major crusties underneath and upon getting back to catherine's pass everyone decided patsey's was the way to go. (i'd say wolvy was probly THE way to go as patsey was getting the sun affect and had a nice scratchy layer not too far from the surface, but again....first time i've actually skiied patsey's since moving here. so that's sweet in my book!

not a bad day. not bad at all.

Godammit. Well, there's always next year....

Way to go, HCAC et al. Rest easy knowing there's a big blonde guy 2000 miles East of you who is braising in his jealousy right now. Maybe I'll wear my helmet whilst cooking my mom her birthday dinner.

Just so you are aware of this insider info, Bum Z will be heading to sunny Phoenix from March 12 to 15th. Factor this info into your forecast by doubling all snowfall amounts.
